Advice please

Car has been in the garage since run on Sunday, went out to have a drool over and noticed the smell of petrol,it was stronger in the cabin.
It was not really strong but noticeable.
Had a look around fuel pump ect and all dry as a bone.

Is this normal?

Neil, could be as per normal - when did you last add fuel and how much?

I had a split in my tank and it ate away the floor seal and cme in behind passenger seat. Check the floor and see if its damp with fuel.

Filled to full when leaving Silverstone, half left when I got home.

Had a feel all around and all dry, it does not smell like neat petrol, just a slight smell, first car I have owned like this so might be me worrying about nothing.

Check if the breather pipe is sticking out through the floor pan near the pump, if its gone in then fumes will be inside the tunnel.

Check the over flow pipe near the fuel pump has not gone up through floor into the void as smells may appear in cabin hope tis helps

Do you let the car run befor you switch it off? sometimes If you turn it straight off the unburnt fuel gives of fumes that are lightly smelt in the garage but the cabin will be stronger, take it back out for a drive 20 min then park up and let it run for 5 min then turn off without touching the throttle.

Mine used to do that, never had a problem after changing fuel pipes as they perished over time

They can be petrol-smelly when left full in a garage but not usually when half full - as others have suggested check the breather pipe. Also check the fuel cap, its designed to seal only when the key is turned fully. There is some adjustment on the base.

Surely the fuel lines would perish first though?
Mine was a small hairline crack only visible when matt/dave at jetstream removed the tank.

Not always as Ethanol attracts water and causes corrosion.

Had a good look today and cannot find any leaks,checked fuel pump all fuel lines and the best I could around the tank, the only place I can smell petrol is at the end of the breather hose.

I have ordered a new valve from Demon Tweeks as I have seen in other posts they can be the problem.

Mine used to stink my garage out, cured it by adjusting the fuel cap.

This could have been the problem,adjusted cap and smell appears to have gone,thanks for the advice.
