A mate of mine runs the Jazz course at a music college and when the first year students turn up thinking they've pretty much got it sussed, he plays them Donald Fagin's track 'Maxime' from 'The Nightfly' (a fave of mine), and asks them to explain what's going on harmonically. Needless to say, none of them get close to any sort of correct analysis. Fagin's understanding of harmony is only exceeded by how much of a pain in the arse he must be to work with! (He's a nightmare apparently).

So off we go to DeMontfort Hall in Leicester. My first impression was that the audience did not look at all like the head banging types I was expecting. Anyway we settled down and I looked forward to some real music.
Suddenly this woman appeared on stage and started throwing flowers into the audience! Seems my girlfriend had mis heard the name on the tickets and we found ourselves in a bloody Steeleeye Span concert, all around my hat etc!
Needless to say we didn't stay to the end!

I love Steely Dan, Can't Buy a Thrill is an album I can never get bored of listening to.
Do have a question though. Dig out your copies of Can't Buy a Thrill, put on track 8 'Brooklyn' - tell me that at 3:38 there isn't a false cut in the tape and that you for a split second hear the backing vocals go for another 'Brooklyn'. I listened to that song so much its the only thing that bugs me (not to a great deal) but is that meant to be there or is it just me?
