Insurance question - three cars, two people
Discussion
Posting in general gassing as I wasn't sure of the appropriate forum for this question.
I've got a query about insuring multiple vehicles and how things like NCB are affected.
Let me give you my scenario. I'm the owner and registered keeper of all vehicles.
Car A - Insured under my name with my 12 year NCB. Social, domestic, commuting and limited business use. Wife is a named driver.
Car B - Insured under my wife's name with her 5 year NCB. Social, domestic, commuting and limited business use. I am a named driver.
Now this is all fine and dandy, but I'm soon to be supplementing the fleet with Car C, which will ultimately replace Car B. However, Car C is a bit "enthusiast", so probably won't be 100% reliable. Also, Car B is only worth about a grand so there is an argument for keeping it as a spare means of transport.
I imagine that if I have all three cars Car B will only do about 2,000 miles per year.
My question is assuming B replaces C on the policy how do I insure B once with the minimum of fuss and expense? I don't want to simply transfer the insurance between B and C ad hoc as there may be occasions where C doesn't start and B is needed at short notice. Can my NCB be applied to two vehicles on two insurance policies?
All advice very much appreciated.

Depending on what car C is is there any possibility of getting a classic limited miles policy on it?
I have something similar where A is my daily with my wife a named driver. B is her daily with me as a named driver. Both cars have normal no claims discount. Car C is an MGB GT which costs a quarter of the insurance of my daily. No NCB and wife as named driver although she has never driven it.

Me and the wife have 3 cars.
One of HERS is a mk1 mx5 and the other of HERS is over 21 years old. Between them they achieve 7K a year.
Mine requires business use. I could choose not to put my name on the insurance of either of the others as my insurance allows me to drive other cars, belonging to others, but the additional cost is less than 20 quid and it saves an arguement at a later date.
The Mx5 was on a classic policy and now isn't and is building a second NCB for my wife, mileage is limited but the value is not agreed, but to be honest hers isn't some special edition with expensive mods so replacement in todays market would be easy.
The Cav is on a normal policy, although again it could go an a classic policy. Just worked out cheaper this way with the full NCB but with a declaration of low miles.
I try to avoid linking the companies (out of spite) and have found that multi-car policies cost more.
