Anyone a member? Talking about the MSA (?) approved clubs rather than owners clubs.

Do you get much from it or is it purely to gain access to the motorsport events?

I'm looking to join Monklands as it's the closest to allow me to try sprints/hillclimbs.

I've always looked at them as a bit anoraky (possibly my mistake) but wondered if any of you lot participate?

MSCC is a very good club for its members - hillclimbs obviously but fun nights, test day and PCTS to name but a few. If you're thinking of doing Doune joining Lothian gives you £5 (?) off each event's entry. I'm a LCC and East Ayrshire member, with EACC being purely to support the club which has our only 'club' owned circuit (and therefore safest for future if financed) in the country and only 1 of 2 in the UK.

Scottish Sporting are based your direction, and run only one sprint at Kames but a very well organised one and an active club as well. Machars also run a Kames sprint but are more rally orientated is my understanding.

More 'speed' clubs exist but further north than you I'm guessing if MSCC is your local - I'm Aberdeenshire and only a member of southerly clubs these days - go figure!!

I've been to some of the Coltness Car Club night outs and events. I can assure you, they are anything but anoraky. I'm sure I've told you about the time I got barred from the RAC Club? smile

Definitely not anorachy!!!!! There is no typical member or competitor, I started sprinting in my sixties and thoroughly enjoy it still. The last two events of last year were won by a sixteen year old boy and a seventeen year old girl so all ages and genders welcome. There are people running £20,000 + single seaters and others running £400 road cars all treated exactly the same, though in different classes!!!!

Best thing of all is the banter and friendship, everyone literally helps everyone else, if a car breaks someone will always help fix it or offer a drive in their car or if all else fails help you to look on the bright side.

Doesn't really matter which club you join as all are invited to all events. EACC allows access to Kames for practise though so may be useful in the early years.

If you need any help just pm me.

Angus is spot on - as is Nina regarding keeping EACC going meaning you're supporting a gem of a motorsport venue in Scotland.

I'd have thought, given your location, that EACC would have been the obvious choice anyway.

The added bonus is that you can join online and pay via PayPal (no need to find; an envelope, a stamp and your cheque book).

Good luck and we all look forward to seeing you out this season.

Oh, and remember, you still have a FlatChat account (it appears that you haven't posted there since 30/12/07 biggrin).

Cheers,

Eric smile

Doesn't mean I don't stop by for a read.

The Scottish sprinting one too iirc.

Thanks for the input folks. I'll get signed up to EACC then, makes sense. Should be able to shuffle the mr2 round Kames ok. Just need to get it Fettled.

Merci.

I was in the Monklands one for a while, need to renew my membership though.
Did the hill climb outside Salsburgh a few times in the kitcar, was pretty new to it so took my time. (set off in 3rd by mistake as well) Good fun.

My dad managed to get me a passenger lift in another kitcar, said the guy had a bit more experience so would be good to learn stuff. Sat in, got belted up and said hello to the guy. We lined up and he went for it, big time.
Never seen car control like it before or since. Turned out he was the course record holder... hehe

I could see why. biggrin

It'll be end of April onwards before i do any sprints/climbs.

Want to build the car this year, try a couple of events and then run it for a season next year if all goes to plan.

Also give me a chance to see what i can do to the car without putting it in the "wrong" class.

I'd be doing it for fun but would be nice to have something to show at the end of it.
