2007 onwards Spider
Discussion
Hi all,
Im very tempted by the latest shape Alpha Spider. I am worried that although it is a very beautiful car, I will be dogged with reliablity issues and electrics issues.
Has anyone who has actually owned one got any feed back on this? I hear a lot from people who have not owned an Alpha!
I currently have a DC5 Integra Type R and an S2000. I'd probably just sell the S2000 to accomodate the Spider.
Also engine choice is a big decision. Of course, being a petrol head I am looking at the 3.2 V6, but I'm open to suggestions.

Great little car. I had a 2.2 JTS for 2 years (2008 -10) from brand new. Never missed a beat mechanically.
Comments are, the 2.2 was a little slow so I would try to go for the 3.2 if you can find one, the build quality wasn't great, eg, very plasticy indicator stalks, the sun visor came off in my hand (wierd back to front operation for some reason) and roof got stuck once.
My Mrs ran it for 9 months after we had our first baby, child seat in the front and boot big enough for the buggy.
Very pretty car and I would have another (faster) one.

I've had mine for about 5 months now (2007) and driven it 5,000 miles. Not missed a beat, and sailed through an MOT. Only down sides are, as mentioned above, the 2.2 JTS engine is slow when compared to TT's, Z4's, etc. and it's quite thirsty for fuel - realistically you're gonna be looking at about 26mpg for a 50-50 split of motorway and urban driving. Nevetheless, i'd recommend the 3.2 if you can find one and if you're not gonna be ripped off by insurance for a bigger engine if you're under 25 like me :-(. The main selling point for me was that it's a fairly uncommon car and prompts enquiries from other enthusiasts I would suspect more often than your 'run of the mill' z4. That and that fact the car is achingly beautiful. If it's only reliability that is your concern, i'd recommend it for sure. Alfas have come a long way.
