Thinking about a new toy.. (A weekend toy)

Is the clio a little 'boy racer' ish?

With the Clio you would spend most of your time in MaccieD,s car parks.tongue out

Your heart says Clio, your head says Cayman.

Sod it. Get the high mileage GT3 you keep looking at and abuse it.

The Clio is a cracking car, an absolute hoot to drive. It's not without its flaws (poor seating position and useless load carrying), but that's it! It's stunning, fun, future classic and the individual choice.

Havent driven either but would the Cayman not feel a little bit more special as a weekend car?

Cayman for me. Much as I like the concept, the V6 just looks like a dodgy body kit in my eyes.

Neighbour had a 2.7 Cayman. I think it only had about 240bhp, so was no ball of fire. Can't you stretch to an S?

Otherwise take the 255bhp Clio. You won't lose money on it if you look after it.

I'd say clio. They have real presence in the flesh. They are definately a lot less chavy when you hear them and see them in person.

Not sure the Clio is a ball of fire, either? Weren't they little different in performance to the hottest 4cyl variants?

Cayman 2.7 is a far better car. Along with the Lotus Exige it is the best B-road car you can buy IMHO.

If you care about straight-line acceleration there are much better cars than either.

Clio all day long for me. I have never thought of them being "boy racer" in any way, just a stunning looking car and very special

Clio rarer & more of an event, Cayman the much better car to drive I would think. Not sure what I'd choose either!

Cayman. Decent car. Good looking. Great steer.

Clio. Totally unpractical. Offensive to the society sheep. Utterly bonkers future classic.

The Clio. Get the Clio.

Seeing a liquid yellow ph1 clio V6 on the street was probably one of the most memorable car sightings i've ever had. Do everyone a favour, get one, drive it lots. We need more cars like that to brighten up what is a usually dull and frustrating commute.

Thanks guys...

It's the 255bhp and near 1500kg that worries me! (Clio)

i'd go clio with that choice.

all depends on what you want it for, if you are bothered about image much, then the cayman will do better in high society and showing off to management types, the v6 will do better everywhere else, including getting let out at junctions smile

I am coming out of a MK1 GT3, and am not too worried what people think. Apart from is a Clio for a mid 30's male a little chavvy? But this would not worry me if the car is better than the Cayman on how it drives and make me feel..

The Cayman is very useable, maybe too useable as a weekend only car.

The Clio will probably be a safe place to put money, will turn more heads and is an interesting thing.

From the GT3 would a Catherham or Elise be a bit more focused as a weekend toy?

Ah in that case I have the same advice but on different grounds.

I make a rule of never ever going from one similar vehicle to another. always change the type/style/reason. This way the next car is never a disappointment!

like so:
FTO
BMW 318
Skyline
Jeep
bmw 328 + commuter bike
Alfa 159 + offroad bike

so if you go by this, you need a clio...
