Backing Track Player?

I've got two amps: one is the first I ever bought (a 50W solid state Kay from about 1980), the other a little 15W Vox.

I play through the Vox, which I got two years ago but could I not use the old warhorse for something else? Like plugging into it some sort of magic box that plays the backing music only to various tunes? You know, something that will play the drums / bass / keyboard lines to Shine On by Pink Floyd, whilst I play the guitar lead over it.

Are there such devices out there? Are they pre-loaded with backing tracks? Expensive?

Any and all advice appreciated.

Download a backing track off the net and bung it into your ipod. Or your laptop. Or even, these days, your phone. Then plug it into the amp.

(I've used a cheapo £20 mp3 player before now.)

I'd never thought of downloading a backing track. The only difficulty I can see with that is finding a lead that connects an iPod to a guitar amp jack input?

I do this all the time & it works really well.

I get the backing tracks from here: http://www.guitarbackingtrack.com/
Then play the MP3's on my PC into the second input of my guitar amp via a 3.5mm jack (standard small headphone size) to 1/4" jack (standard guitar lead size) lead. You could play the MP3's on anything that has a standard 3.5mm headphone socket such as a phone or MP3 player (I don't know if Apple products have 3.5mm headphone connectors, I assume so?).

Be aware that if your old Kay has typical guitar voiced speakers with no tweeter, it will sound duff. May not matter much, but why not use your hi-fi's Aux In instead?
