Chomping at the bit to upgrade - 7D?

I've pretty much come to the conclusion that a 7D is the way forward for me. I'm just after a 'better' body really but obviously budget is a major factor.
I shoot a fair bit of static car stuff, Architecture and increasingly People at events, weddings, that sort of thing. I do cover a fair bit of motorsport too so here's where I could take advantage of the high frame rate of the 7D..
Swaying me towards the 7D is that with the crop body, my current lenses would still work I believe. Lenses are Tamron 17-50 f2.8 - Canon 70-300 IS (though I'd like to upgrade the Tamron in the future when funds allow)
As much as I'd like to go down the 5D MK2 route the cost implications of the body upgrade, and the immediate lens upgrade as the Tamron won't work. All of which puts this a little out of reach tbh. Though I think the 5D2 would be the ideal setup for me in many ways.
So, convince me this is the right thing to do. Tell me the images from the 7D are amazing and make me put my hand in my pocket
I'll be looking at a used body too btw, any notes of where to look for one may help. So far I'm looking at Talkphotography forum and a bit of ebay

I was looking at the 7D last year, I went down to a 60D for a couple of reasons:
- Price (the big one)
- Weight/Size - the 7D is quite a bit bigger/heavier, I couldn't be arsed carrying it around tracks/weddings
- Flip out screen (surprisingly useful when the camera is on a very high/low on a tripod, you can bodge together an external screen with apps/ebay monitors though)
Obviously the 7D is better than the 60D in a lot of ways, but for me the extra £200-300 saved meant I can rent 4 or 5 L lenses for holidays etc. The lenses made a bigger difference for me than going from a 1000D to 60D - especially when you're hiring a 100-400L or some other monster.
I guess I'm saying it might be worth saving a bit of money on the body and using it to upgrade/hire lenses?

Canon have the 7D refurbished bodies (1yr warranty) on their eBay store at the moment for £699.

Yeah, I bought two 
One last week when the price was £749 which getting returned and another at £699.
The 1st is only getting returned as I want that £50 in my pocket and not theirs.
They're basically either ex-disply or opened box items. They are as good as new and come with the 1yr warranty from Canon. The only part that loses that 'brand new' feel is that you don't have any plastic to peel off the rear and top displays. All included accessories are sealed and new.
MPB charge the same price for propoer 2nd hand ones, so it's a fair deal.

I like the 7D a lot, I bought mine used a while ago to replace my 500D.
So it's much faster, when focussing and shooting. With the software update you can happily fire off large bursts of 8fps (ideal for taking pics of motorbikes when your mates don't understand slow).
It felt massive at first as it's a lot bigger than what you have now, I have quite big hands and find it very comfortable for long periods.
It also has much better batteries than the 500D, taking around 800 shots per charge.
The 2nd wheel makes a big difference if you shoot in manual as you can change shutter speed and apeture at about the same time. The focus point joystick is also handy for changing the focus area quickly (the 6D hasn't got this and it would annoy me).
I did consider the 5D mk2 at the same time, I went for range and speed with the 7D. The 5D is better in lower light and you get a bigger selection of high quality lenses.
It's pretty tough too, I dented a Jeep hire car in Canada with mine!
Negative points, it's not brilliant in low light. People will assume that you know what you're doing (not always a good thing!).
