Was browsing the concept 2 site for upcoming events, and happened upon the 5x50 challenge.
Its for charity (comic relief), the idea is to run/walk/ride/crawl/row 5km every day for 50 days. If for whatever reason you can't do anything on a given day, you can roll it over to subsequent days, as long as you still average 5km every day. Maybe even aim for a little more
More info at http://5x50.co.uk/faq
Sounds like quite a practical challenge. 5km rowing is easy, 5km cycling is ridiculously easy. 5km running is something that I truly loathe, so that would have to be mixed into the routine. Its just keeping it going for 50 days that'll make it interesting.
So .... anyone else going to be throwing themselves into this one?

Eh? I walk around 50-80km a week and bike about 30km on top of that, just doing my shopping and work.
Is this supposed to be somesort of special challenge?
I do that as well, but at least for myself I'm intending to do this on top of my other routines and try to put in a decent pace on each one rather than "just doing the distance".Is this supposed to be somesort of special challenge?

I can only assume the crawl is swim? But 5k of swimming a day would be killer!
Longest I've done in one swimming session was 2.6k .... wasn't really that painful at all. The only problem with a 5k swim would be staying in the pool for over 2 hours. And boredom.I've been looking for a "new challenge" and was caught up in the idea of doing something for charity. 5k (rowing, running or cycling - not swimming!) would be way too easy. It would be good for someone who hasn't done much cardio .... ie. pretty much no-one on these forums.
Back to the drawing board it is then

I used to row all the time and loathe running, after switching a while back to more serious running (for me), I now prefer it to rowing.Rowing is tougher when you go for it without a doubt.

Nah. If you can swim, 5km a day isn't much of a chore. Same as if you can (or like) running 5k isn't a chore.Used to do about 10-12 k a day spread out over a 75-90min morning session and a 2 hour evening session. Every day except sat (no swimming) and Sunday ( only one session). Used to avg about 3.5k an hour. Once did about 4.5k in an hour but that was 3x1500's so mostly continuous swimming. Still average that per hour now, but I don't swim 2 x day every day anymore
Always find it funny that I wouldn't ever bat an eyelid at 5k of swimming. But you try get me to run 5k. I'll want to strangle you by about 2k!!!! Only I won't be able to catch you to do it!

Fair enough, I'm the opposite. Running 5k is barely even a warm up to me. Yet the thought of even 1k of swimming has me dreading it all day!Used to do about 10-12 k a day spread out over a 75-90min morning session and a 2 hour evening session. You are an Eskimo, right? Or a Bushman?tbh it's nothing to walk that kind of distance. I have a client I have the time to walk to 3 times a week (although that's about to change). Less than 1 1/2 hours there and back, that's 60km for the week and 3,000kcals burned guaranteed. Never even break a sweat, do all my phone-based work on the walk. The rest is like walking into town pubbing or window shopping, shopping at Tescos etc. You rack up the miles easily.
