These are Tetra radio towers that stand about 25M tall.

I've tried Google but it leads to a world of conspiracy-nutter pain.

Is it possible that parts of them might vibrate when operating?

Highly unlikely, there's nothing special about TETRA radio waves or the way they operate compared to other trunked systems.

Thanks - it must have just been a quirk of the wind.

Creepy.

Am I missing something? There seems to be a lot of tin foil hattery around these things.

Tetra is a digitally encrypted comms network used by the police and mountain rescue + possibly Ambulance and Fire too, although I'm not sure WRT those two.

It's basically a mobile phone system. And it's generally quite poor in rural areas.

I think they are police ones. I was cycling there a while ago and they seemed to be vibrating in turn - just sounded a bit odd. I Googled to see if it was possible.

Good grief. I won't do that again.

IIRC it piggy-backs off the O2 network - that's the BT one yes? Anyway it's BT if it's not o2.

nothing much to add except what has been said- emergency service comms.

My (Nirvana) quote was nothing more than an apt lyric to stir your paranoia!

It's hard to tell from the pic but it looks like the only tower with TETRA antennas is the one that is second from the right. The two big towers have got all sorts of stuff on them although how much is live is anyones guess. If you have a location I might be able to dig up more info.

Power transformers can hum, technically they are vibrating but it's normally so fast and such a small movement that you hear rather than see it.

Kind of like a dodgy electrical socket? If the plug on your appliance\socket is dodgy the socket "hums" ??

Okay. I'll say it but I know how this sounds. The two towers were making vibrating sounds like this: Tower 'A' would 'say' BRRRRR then Tower 'B' would say DRRRR or some such.

There wasn't much of a breeze but it must have been that.

It's actually quite common, at ground level there probably wasn't much breeze but go higher and it soon whips up so that is the likely answer. In the end a tower is just a structure to mount equipment on so if the tower itself is conducting some kind of current which makes a noise then things have gone very badly wrong.

It will be the wind. A similar effect can be caused by the over consumption of beans smile

Police Tetra systems are hopeless. Two bean cans connected with string would be better.

Made a transformer once and forgot to sort the core out. Buzzed like hell.

Back to the vibrations, when you get up towers in some places, the wind speeds are different to ground level. Stuff thrums away like a good un but dead still at ground level.

Don't confuse Tetra with Tesla wink

Though who knows. At least you're up to speed on Zero point energy and wireless electrical transmission now wink

There could be other things near by making the hums such as the air conditioning units in the outbuildings for example that house most the equipment.
