hi, we are looking for some replacement headlamp bulbs for a 77's jago. the only number on the bulbs is 40/45 watt, but we dont know what bulb number to ask for or where to get them from! The headlamp unit looks similar to an old tractor headlight unit. Are all Jago Jeeps the having the same unit? if not we think it is an early one (has a fold flat screen)
Cheers charlie

The best first stop for your bulbs is either Halfords or similar motor factors.
Take the old bulb with you as a pattern.
It sounds like it is a standard tungsten bulb which may be a 410 type.
Most Halogen bulbs are 60/55W units which the later Jago's had. These are usually 472 type.
As your vehicle may well have a dynamo rather than an alternator it may not provide enough charge to run the halogen bulbs (due to the extra wattage required.
Hope this is of help.

yeah, thanks for that, but they are not 410's. i asked at my garage, and the ones they showed me where way different. mine are almost egg shaped - the 410's you described have a metal attachment/ring on the bottom (unfortunately not suitable for my holders!). i guess you don't have any other ideas do you? i think my jeep must be fairly well uniqe (that or either some fool has gone and nabbed some tractor lights and plonked tham in there!). cheers, charlie.

I will have to get back to you on the bulbs after I have checked some information out.
Will try to solve the riddle for you.
What size are the headlight units? (lense size) Are they 5 3/4" or 7" or even another size altogether?

Hi
Do you have access to a digital camera?
If so could you take a picture of both the headlight unit(do the headlight front and back) and the bulb (do the bulb from front, side and back).

Then attach them to an e-mail to techsec@jagoowners.freeserve.co.uk

Hi I haven't forgot just doing some research.
Two possibles I have come across is that the headlight unit may be either from the 105E Anglia or even a motorcycle as some early bikes have the shape of bulb you describe. What casing the unit has been put in is another matter but does not concern us as it is the bulb we are trying to locate.

Another option (if you don't mind a bit more expense and work than just replacing a bulb) is to buy new headlight units.
Europa Specialist Spares list 5 3/4" H4 headlights at £14.50 each plus VAT and the shells (if needed) at £22.71 plus VAT (does not say whether each or pair)

If you need to replace the headlight part of the loom then £5 or £6 each plus VAT gets you the wiring.

Will keep looking in the meantime for other possibles for the bulbs.

Should you wish to do a light replacement as above let me know.

If you are running a dynamo I can supply info to upgrade to alternator.
