Russian 'ghost' ship

It seems an old Russian cruise liner that has been adrift for nearly two months has been sighted off the coast of Ireland:

Having been abandoned in Canada for two years, it was being towed away to be scrapped when the lines to the tug ship snapped. After a second attempt to tow it failed it was left to float around with no crew and no warning lights for nearly two months.

Quite spooky really, imagine sailing along and seeing that looming up ahead in the darkness!

I do wonder why it was left to it's own devices though, surely there was a risk it would end up in a shipping lane? Now that the Canadians have washed their hands of it, and I can't see the Russians coming to get it, no doubt some salvage hunter will come along and take it.

I'm quoting the article, I didn't get my nautical map out and plot out territorial waters and all that malarkey! I presume they say Ireland as it's the nearest landmass.

Now if it had been full of scantily clad ladies then I would have offed the lines like a shot only slowed by taking the pleading phone calls from Bacardi to be deckhand / oiler.
