E87 130i vs E90 330i saloon

Been thinking about (dreaming 
) of a 130i for my next car for a while now. Its been the only car on my radar really, have found myself looking online in all the usual places watching prices drop and reading up on them and all seems very positive. I have considered all manner of alternatives and allways keep coming back to the 1er. Just recently though iv noticed the 330i's (not coupe's, need 5 door and their out of my budget) and they seem like a genuine and interesting alternative. Anyone had any experiences of the two cars and how they compare?. The 3 series definitely looks better in my opinion, although it seems to be slightly less powered than the 1 series?. I take it they both use exactly the same engine? I've got a suspicion the 1 series is more fun to drive? The 3 series looks attractive though as its certainly better looking and more spacious and can be had for around the same money. Looking at 06ish reg cars with about 100k. What would you go for?
