Im really hankering after an audi a4 estate. I'm 23 with no kids and no real need for a family car.

Am I to young?

I bought one at 21 because I needed to as we have 2 dogs.

If I didn't have the dogs and didn't have a baby due in 5 weeks, I would not have an estate on my drive. I would have a 2 seater or at worst a hot hatch/coupe.

Estates are so much better than Saloons, if your choice is between A4 Saloon or Estate then go estate, and no your not too young, when you go on a road trip with friends boy you'll be glad of the extra room, i've even slept in my Legacy a few times with a inflatable matress.

I bought a Volvo 940 estate at 23. Nothing wrong with that.

ETA No kids, no dogs. Just a double mattress in the boot wink

If you lead any sort of active lifestyle, an estate can be invaluable. My first car was a 1965 VW Squareback and it took me all over racing bicycles until I got to college, when a Volvo 144 estate with its significantly larger load bed came in quite handy. After that, it was Audi, Audi, BMW, Audi and BMW again.

Having had an S4 Avant, I will say that the actual carrying capacity of the smaller wagons is a drawback. In spite of numerous track days with it, the S4s 'sportiness' lay primarily in a straight line and motorway on-ramps. I think the 5-series BMW estates offer more of a sporty feel, and a lot more utility.

Of course, YMMV. I wouldn't be without an estate in the garage, and if I have only one car it will be a wagon.

If you have no need of an estate make sure it's an S or and RS...otherwise you'll look like you've borrowed your mum and dads.

I bought an estate because I think they look nice, no other reason. I don't even put shopping in it

I have a volvo 850 estate and I'm 18. Nothing wrong with going against stereotypes!

Saab turbo coupe has a massive loadspace if that's what you need rather than the 4-doors of an Audi.

- Most estates look better than the hatch / saloon they're based on
- Very useful for those occasional times you need to transport furniture
- You can get lots of beer in it
- You can sleep in it
- They tend to hold their value better than hatch and saloon cars

Go for it. Estates are great.

My first car at 17 was a MK4 Escort Estate!

Picked up a 95 aero estate at the begining of December at 28. Have always liked estates, you can us the space so easily, and I prefer the look to most saloon varients.

Get what you want, when you can sling the bikes on the roof, kit in the boot and4 mates for a weekend away or whatever, the pisstaking will stop and they will all see the value of it! Plus they are discreet for the young driver

I've got a mk2 golf in the garage, and would quite like an estate for getting to work and hopefully lots of camping. Not really a fan of saloons, and would either be a 1.9tdi or the v6 tdi.

I had an opel rekord estate in my final year of uni (cheers Dad).

It was the bike/canoe club weapon of choice.

Aaah, the days where I could get everything I owned into a car.

No.

Though if you feel the need to ask strangers for approval you possibly shouldn't get one.

No. Estates are the way forward because they generally look better... (waits for the explosion from the coupe-owners)
