M5 clutch needed how much at an Indie?

Guys, I've just got up to 74k miles on my E60 M5 and that's on its first clutch, so not done too bad!

Anyway, its now starting to slip a little when hot and in stop start situations and also slipping a tiny bit as I accelerate hard. How long can one run like this for? Is it going to get progressively worse or will it just fail?

So, time to bite the bullet and get a replacement fitted. How much have other paid all up at their Indie for this? How much and where can I buy the components required? How many hours of labour is this booked at?

sorry to hear about your problem,
but the good news is that it doesn't sound like your clutch is at problem (although it probably is down to minimum level by now)
if the car is juddering only from stop and go, it's likely to be faulty release bearing.
read my previous threads and others who had the same problem.

it isn't your clutch problem if you have no problem engaging gears from 2-3, 3-4, 4-5, 5-6, 6-7 or the other way around.
if the clutch slips, the gear number shown on the head up display will flash.

Either way you're going to want to do both at the same time - and most probably the flywheel too.

Parts roughly £1k - labour £500 to £1k depending on specialist/dealer.

If its the release bearing, is that a failure of a component and consequently covered under my waranty? If yes, that should make the clutch replacement virtually parts only? smile

I had pretty decent luck - bought a clutch kit and flywheel from carparts4less.co.uk (eurocar parts' mail-order only arm) for about 820, guide tube, bolts and clutch pivot from the dealer for 30 or so and then installed for 460. Budget 1500 or thereabouts.

That's great value -- especially considering the internet is sinking under stories about the E60 M5 clutch costs.
