Chaps, I'm considering putting 16in imolas on the front so the car will be on 16/16!

Do you just source two 16 old rears

Or do you need a narrower wheel ?

In essence I want to put my old rears on the front! Are they to wide!

Im busy so can't answer to quick but very interested, want tyres sorted!

Cheers Al

The Imola 15s are 7J, the 16s 7.5J according to the car handbook.
I haven't a Scooby whether the 7.5s will fit on the front or not.
I think it is more the tyre width then the wheel width. as the tyres stick out further than the rims.
215 or at a push 225 is about all you can get away with on the front, 235 or at a pinch 245 at the back.
Every car is different, remember.
The guy who sold me Sp12s that I bought had 215 fronts, 235 rears, and I think I remember him saying that he had tried 225 and 245, but that they caught on the chassis or wheel arches on hard fast cornering

Fitted them on mine . You may find tyres foul inner arches on full lock. If so you can fit lock stops to stop it happening

I have 225/45/16`s on the front with no problems ,cant see you having a problem . You could fit maybe 3 to 5 mm spacers on the front if necessary.

You could fit . eather 215/45/16 or 205/50/16 less chance of rubbing

Arrrrhh get in there, that's good then! I'm thinking 205/45/16F 225/45/16R? Maybe 40 on the front to keep the dip, would that look dodgy on the fatter wheel at the front? Next question anyone got a pair of 16 imola's that are in the way? I should really wait til I've found out if I've screwed up my 17 wheel! Thanks for clarifying that gents.

those tire sizes are too small... with 16" imolas on front you need at least 5mm spacer, preferably 7mm. Then 205/50-16 front and 225/50-16 rear, no less. Alternative is 225/45 and 245/45.

205/45 and 225/45 rear will give wrong speedo and lower top speed/motorway cruise speed.

Oli is the reason for the 7mm spacer to keep the inside edge of wheel away from wishbones! Would my front track now be much wider, outside edge of both front wheels would be how much wider than on a standard 15in wheel. Is that a correct assumption. I think it's time I braved the cold and got the spanners out! So am I right in thinking the wheel hub centre is offset differently on a 15in v 16in imola wheel? So by putting the rears on the front even though the wheel is wider the offset means it's sitting in the wrong place/ position??? Or the inside edge of the wheel is to close to the centre line! What is obvious to me is a go cart has a narrower track to the rears, they turn,I'd like to keep the front slightly narrower! Waffle waffle, with said spacers fitted to rears put on the front and rears as standard would the track be the same on front and back or would the fronts still be narrower! Many regards Al

You are talking about a 1/2" difference in rim width ,thats only 1/4" each side ,if they catch just fit a 3 to 5mm spacer or bump stops ..Come on just get on with it ..This has been done loads of times .

except it wont be equally split

offset is a dark art.
dependant on what it is that 1/2" could all be on one side of the wheel or it could be more than the extra 1/2" if the offset dictates it.

Not really a dark art if you have a tape measure, the offset on the rears is 35 so the wheel will sit inboard by 10mm + the 6mm on each side of the rim so to centre the wheel add a 5mm space will bring it back in line

Guess what after all this conjecture I've made a decision, keep the 15/16 set up for road, get good rubber on the 17's for summer/ track. Just got to get a wheel repaired first. Sorry to bore you Silicone lol, tape measure confirms there not much wider, I'm going to try the 16's just to see how they sit! As I've had the 17's on I can't see much of an issue.

On the original wheels I had zero tracking. Big wheels, just like my old Jag, there great but on our roads yank you left right and centre! Or is that a steering issue I'm not 100% sure. Mind you at speed my newer big wheels were spot on and straight as an arrow???? At slower speeds the tiv and Jag on bigger wheels, wider tyres tracked exactly the same. Terrible! Is this just me or is this prevalent in others cars with mainly WIDER tyres on the front? I'm sure it is. My jag was set up properly and was as bad as the tiv!!!! I'm talking naff roads here. Grooves of Tarmac etc. The original owner had the car in Scotland for 10 years, summer use but that's still winter up there. He had 195's on and I can see why! Unless your on a runway, for where the car was living it's a good choice! Sounds mad I know!

I better get some hot brothe and get the wheels off. Cheers for the directions chaps, humbled as always. Al
