I already own two Rolex watches.

I've stated this in the intrests of full disclosure.

Ive been ebaying my unwanted items for many years now and Im pretty handy when it comes to creating a good listing etc and have tons of positive feedback.

I also happen to have a brand new, unused, unwanted Swatch Bachelor, boxed with papers sitting in my draw, it's a 1993 model, this one (worth about £30-£40)

As an experiment I thought I might try (with your help) to ebay my way from the Swatch to another Rolex (or similar) in a year (or less?)

The only rules being:

1) I only buy and sell watches.

2) I only use eBay.

3) and I'm not to use any additional funds, just profit made from eBay watch sales.

So feasible, or not? Your advice, suggestions, support and/or abuse are most welcome.

Quite a challenge but good luck to you my friend.

I find scouring ebay listings "newly listed items" and just punching in Omega into the search brings up lots of choice and some right bargains, normally 1970-1980 periods are listed with low buy it nows.

Ps, the swatch is nice.

Cheers mate, it's going to take many steps I reckon, I think it's possible, I remember reading about some guy who went from an old mobile to a Porsche http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/07/21/steven-or...

'70s/'80s Omega's are certainly going to figure in my erm.... 'sales ladder' rofl for want of a better term? Brand hierarchy? Sales hierarchy?? Something like that.

Are you taking listing/final/paypal fees into consideration ?

Yes. Shouldn't be too bad to begin with. As I mentioned I'm a pretty experienced ebayer (non pro) but 600 + transactions to my name so I'm well aware of the pros and cons.

The rolexforums where I also posted the same question just deleted my thread without explanation! rofl god knows why? Maybe they thought I was devaluing the brand or something? They are are sensitive bunch.

A Wee bit off topic, but how do you guys go about buying watches on Ebay? I've had a look a few times, but never gone through with a purchase because there's always a nagging feeling that it might be a fake/stolen.

I wouldn't restrict myself to buying from Ebay.

You need to make minimum 15% profit each time just to clear ebay and pp fees don't forget.

A difficult but interesting challenge. I'm looking forwards to following this thread.

I would suggest that there is a lot of profit to be made in creating franken watches. Personally, I don't have a problem with this, so long as the watch is not mis sold.

Buy a watch with a grotty dial, buy a dial, marry the two and resell. The Ukranians have become experts in plonking pocket watch movements into oversize wrist watch cases, Whilst I think this is a shame, the prices that people are prepared to pay for these monstrosities is eye watering.

Interesting idea.
Why restrict yourself to ebay though?
You could pick up some bargains on the watch forums and make a profit on ebay quite easily I would have thought.

Good luck, and keep us posted!

Sound like a good laugh - I'd follow this with interest smile I guess you'd really need to know your watches though and be able to leap on a bargain if you found one.

Thanks for the encouragement chaps. I have lost my bottle a bit already rofl I'm ready to put the first auction up on Sunday I hope. Here's a couple of pics I've taken for the auction.

Not sure about using other avenues to buy watches? Maybe I'll have a think about it and see how things go..

I don't want to go off topic but how does a non watch expert know if the Ebay watches are genuine or not?

You don't. You can ask someone who knows more about that brand, but there is no guarantee that the watch you receive will be what is in the pictures anyway.....
