Tuner Nuts

Just been advised by my local wheel and tyre supplier NOT to use tuner nuts on standard TVR wheels as there is a chance they can break through the wheel. This is because the cone outside diameter on the tuners is only 20mm, the standard nuts are 24mm and most of the cone contacts the wheel. The tuners are designed for wheels with tuner drillings and shouldn't be used on standard wheel. He showed me both types of wheel drilling and they where clearly different.

Edited to say, the hole diameter in Imola's and OZ's is 16.5mm so you can see how small the contact area is with tuners.

WTF is a tuner nut? I realise from your post that it has a much smaller seating area, but I have in all my considerable years never heard the term before.
In what applications are they normally used?

They are tubular wheel nuts with a 17mm Allen key drive on the inside. eBay search will find them. Some people on here have fitted them and I was going to buy a set but have now bought new standard wheel nuts but in black.

These use a ten point key (anti theft value?), others use a 12mm hex "allen" key

Advantage, apart from look neat, is less chance of damaging lacquer on wheel than when using a socket over a nut.
