No, this isn't a 'What's the faster car' thread
... I currently own a '97 RX-7 but have always wanted an Elise, it's my dream car but right now slightly out of reach financially. I could just afford the cost of an RX-7 and am enjoying every minute behind the wheel, but at the back of my mind is always the niggling feeling that it isn't a Liz
I was promoted at work recently and may be promoted again around Christmas so it's possible an Elise will be within my grasp. But what I really want to know is, will the Elise impress after having driven the Rex? They do have some similarities - uncompromised, fast to 60, superb handling - but will the Elise feel like a hot hatch? Or will it excel in other areas to make up for the power defecit?

Steve,
I, like you, have always wanted an Elise and after owning a number of hot hatches and the like I was wondering what an Elise could offer. Well, this summer I finally purchased my Elise (S1 111s) after much soul searching.
Simply put Steve, it drives like nothing else I have ever owned. The engine is nothing exotic and the power is quite modest, but stick it in the middle of a lightweight chassis driving the back wheels and you get something really special!
The car is a total joy. Only now am I comming to terms with the unbelievable pace it can carry through corners. I think every Elise owner enjoys taking Elise vigins out for a spin and watching their grip on the seat tighten as you approach yet another corner at speeds that would see most other cars becoming part of the countryside!
In summary Steve, do it, even if your head says no (like mine was) listen to your heart - it knows what it wants!

DO IT NOW!!!
No comparison IMHO ... the Elise is a real sports car ... check out the interior, there's nothing in there, no heavy bulky seats, no carpets, no trim ... the thing weighs nothing. Get it, drive it and you won't regret it! I can recommend the S1 111s, personally I am enjoying it more than the Exige!
