Clutch slip???????

Yesterday on my 500 I noticed that in fifth when putting peak power down the clutch slipped, the clutch was replaced by Team Central 10,000 miles ago, is it likely to be anything else. The car drives fine apart from that.

If you have a rear crankshaft oil seal go, like I did last year, I was told it could leak onto the clutch and knacker it. Costly job to fix as well!

The rear crank shaft oil seal. If you have a T5 gear box there is an inspection hole in the bottom of it. Stick your hand in and have a poke around, if you come across any oil thats probably the problem. If not then its new clutch time. Did they fit an ordinary Rover clutch last time or was it a TVR 500 Clutch?

Thats what happened to mine, Cant remember ho wmuch it came to in the end (in Profile i think) but needed new Clutch and a seal.

Thanks Simon, it says in your profile £806 inc VAT parts and exhaust mod. How much was the exhaust mod there?

reciept isnt a great breakdown,

Clutch cover,Plate and Bearings £369
Seal £17 and Labour is £300 and Vat is £120.

The Exhaust Mod is lost in the Labour somewhere but think it was around £80 (and worth every penny)

Are they investigating this 'clutch' issue for you, or are you going for the first of some tasty mods?

Hi Pete! Thanks, the car is getting there just had some paint done to get rid of some annoying stonechips, Peninsula are servicing it and have done the sports exhaust so yes the mods have started already!

Clutch slip has been traced to a leaking input shaft seal on the box, bugger!

Still a bit of a downer though.

Would you believe the crank seal was the reason for the last clutch!!!

Are you sure you haven't inadvertently bought a Friday night car? (Only kidding)

Presumably you're getting the lads to do the work in with the service?

Why don't you get them to fix the seal (obviously!) and then inspect the clutch. after all it was slipping all the time was it? So oil contamination might be slight, in which case you should be able to burn it off no problem - especially the way you carefully navigate sleepy Somerset villages
