I'm looking for either a Wedge or Chim, ideally about £5k max but I accept that I'll need to go to at least £6k for a Chim.

Does anyone on the forum know this car?

http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/t...

I've checked the posters profile and he has never posted so can't get any idea about him or the car. Likewise a HPI check shows be bought the car in Octobef which isn't very long to own the car to ve selling it unless he bought it damaged and repaired it.

Any info, most welcome.

Feel free to PM if you do t want anything know. In the public forum.

Many thanks.

I have taken his comments on Cat D with a large pinch of salt....

Rule of thumb is usually 30% off for cat D.

I'm also in the market for a Chim atm, and have looked at that advert.
his blurb is frankly "full of sh*t"

for example
a scratch if done by insurance company means car goes on the register - well thats bollo*. The register is for cars the insurance company HASNT had repaired and have been declared "beyond economical repair" (paint can do it, but not on a £7k TVR)

he also states "nearly all TVR's are cat d"
yeah right LOL

further on it says "Most owners do not declare this as they do not legally have to"
well thats not actually true - yes you dont have to initially mention hpi history as its Caveat Emptor. BUT if someone asks you "has it ever been written off" then your legally bound to answer truthfully.

IMO (and thats all it is, just opinion)
it looks like it could be a tidy enough car, the history and maintainance look good from what he says - but its overpriced considering its mileage and that its on the hpi register.
that said it does have the light conversion that some people like and the flip paint

if you want it, then do some research on cat c/d (and take it with you)
and go in with both eyes open and bargain hard

It has been for sale for several months I think. I'm not convinced by the blurb on the Cat D.

A car only goes on the register if it is written off. If the insurance company decide to repair the damage, no matter how big or small then it's not registered.
As far as value is concerned, it remains one of the cheapest out there. There are 72 Chim ads on PH & only 12 are roadworthy below £10k!!
Early doors in the season yet but there does seem to be a large percentage Chims for £10k or more. scratchchin

P.S. there's a particularly nice Green one on there too..... biggrin

P.P.S. I used a Cat C Griffith 500 as a daily driver for 18 months, did some track days in it & it never missed a beat. Buy cheap, enjoy then sell cheap. driving

Expensive paint job ,nice interior with new carpets , looks a nice car .A four wheel alignment test will find out most problems .

I`m in Nottinghan if you are interested i can check the chassis and ask a few questions if you like ..Just a few quid for diesel will cover it ..Can check the chassis and outriggers

That car looks a million dollars ,wish my car had an interior and new carpets ,that would cost a small fortune on its own ..

Just look what you can get for that type of money !

When you drive down the road in that ,heads turn ,for some reason most people think they cost 20k .

Not a common paint job, interior looks nice - but I'd be asking why the black bonnet - and those HT leads laying around the engine bay are asking for trouble.

True..

My thoughts are that the owner of the car isn't being 100% factual in his description. He may "feel" that most TVRs are damaged/repaired but that's not something that is neccessarily accurate.

He seems to state opinion as "fact" and that does go some way towards showing the charector of the owner...and that's normally something I like to take into account when buying a car (but that might well be just me!).

I do like the look of the car though, but witht he headlight conversion, wrapped bonnet and information on front end damage I'd want it at a REALLY good price (circa £5500 or maybe a bit less) as I KNOW you can get a good Chim for that money (personal experience).

Wouldn't say negative as such. I quite agree Daz these little jobs can be sorted, but if you are selling then surely sort the little jobs before advertising, or else a buyer might wonder what bigger jobs weren't done if the little ones still need doing.

Im sure it was the same owner and advert when I was looking for a chim in October.
I was curious why it has a carbon wrap on the bonnet after having a re-spray, especially in a flip colour where the bonnet would show it off really well.

I was thinking this too. Quite why he hasn't peeled it off to aid the sell of the car is a mystery.
I'm sure Daz will be along in a minute to highlight the error of suggesting such a thing, in a non aggressive manor hehe

If I do get to see the car, I expect the bonnet underneath the wrap to be rubbish. Why else would you wrap it?

Fair point.
but the flip side of that is why would you respray the whole car but not the bonnet ?

The best think to do is take Daz up on his offer and have it viewed. Sounds like a very generous offer to me and then you'll have your answer!!!
