Do I have a virus???

On my PC at home I went to log on yesterday morning, started up as normal, went to the logging on point on Windows XP, I put in the password, it goes to load my settings and comes up with my desktop background but before I can do anything it logs off again and goes back to the password page. I have unplugged everything etc??

Any ideas?

Start it in safe mode and check the contents of your startup group.

Depending on your comfort with PC's, download autoruns from www.sysinternals.com/ntw2k/freeware/autoruns.shtml and see what is actually running and where from. This might give you a clue.

A simple no brainer is to log on as someone else and see if the same thing happens.
