hi all

I've seen various posts with regards to jacking your car up without having to use a "very low entry" trolley jack
or jacking up from the outriggers

so here's my cheap fix without having to buy some adjustable ramps which cost in region of £300

I made these ramps up the other day with some scaffold boards, 4 in total under each wheel and reversing up onto them , these are just high enough to get the car up in the air to enable the use of a standard trolley jack at the front with axle stands and using a cross support on the trolley jack to lift the rear main chassis frame up and then using axle stands on the main frame

I know there not the best solution but it saves so much time in getting the car up in the air

cheers keith

Good idea!

I use some left over paving slabs, but they sometimes shift forward when I drive onto them.

have to look around where I live for some "spare" scaffold boards now!

Top tip ..... get some old rubber floor mats and cut some off and attach them to the leading edge of the ramp, then there is little chance of the ramp shooting away from the wheels as you try to ride up on them

Good DIY skills though to get over the low jacking height of the car.

Cracking idea! I'm sure someone from the HSE will be along shortly to poo poo your efforts as unsafe etc but i think they are a Great idea.

in the sales i bought a lifting kit from Halfrauds, 2 stands, wheel chocks, wheel brace and 3 tonne trolley jack, it is tight but does fit under the car without ramps. My main concern was where to jack it up from.

I bought one of those, but it's still not low enough to go under the front.....or is my ride height set too low? I always have use a scissor jack under the outrigger to start with....

I use the jack from my jaguar. It goes comfortably under the chim. They are pretty cheap on ebay

I like the design.

First level of board, small incline onto flat surface and tyre then pushes weight of car vertically to stop ramp skidding away as the car climbs the next two levels!

Very clever, intentional of course smile

Attach a long piece of rope to each ramp. Your back wheel will hold the ramps in place whilst you drive up.

I've been 'thinking' of doing the same thing for ages.
Just that I am too bone idle lazy, and never seem to have the tools or materials to hand.
Always figured it would work a treat, glad to see that it does.

At least now I have a picture to show someone else what I want making thumbup

Isn't that what wives are for, Bill? Mine seems to be handy with a sharp object in her hand... yikes

Like it. Nice and simple!

I was going to do something along the lines of this:

Something like that. I'd make it more sturdy and plasti-dip it. I also would add something to the side so that you can feel where the tyres are.

I haven't allowed a woman to get near both a sharp object, and my own person, at the same time for many years.

To make jacking my Chim up easier ,I park it on breeze blocks laid sideways, which gives me more clearance under the car and keeps it level .Then I can jack the front up on the crossmember and on the back I had an attachment for my jack made up so I can jack both wheels at the same time smile
