Are you talking about building them in game or using other programs?

Oh. The trouble is that's the only game I can remember with self designable tracks. Well, easily self designable...

Trackmania - but it's not what you'd call realistic.

I'm really after a simulation like Live For Speed, where you can tweak all the different aspects of the car to suit you best, and where you also get reasonably realistic graphics and handling...

Does no such game exist then? Needs to be on Xbox/PC or mobile platforms.

Forza
iRacing
Grid
NFS shift

None if these let you build your own tracks though.

Do you want to just drag and drop track segments like a scalectrix? if so I think you are going to be out of luck on most platforms but especially consoles. If you are willing to consider proper coding mod/mapping then some of the sims should have the appropriate interfaces and tools and communities to allow and support that.

The problem is likely to be that now companies want to charge for dlc/content the desire to open a game up to mod teams is much less likely. Would you buy a map/track if you could get the same for free?

http://rfactor.net/web/rf2/rf2features/ looks like rfactor2 includes modding cars and tracks.

Google Bobs track builder.

Can be used to make tracks for quite a few different PC games (rfactor/gtr etc)

Not cheap, and I don't think it's been updated for a couple of years, but looks really easy to use. Plenty of videos on youtube.

Would LOVE to build my own track using all my fave local routes!

That looks quite interesting, i will investigate into that further when i have some spare time. Looks a little tricky to use but i'm sure it will get simpler once the basics have been learned.

Last night i discovered a rather cool track builder in the game live For Speed that i mentioned a bit ago. Although you can't actually build your own tracks, you can make the layouts to go on the pre-installed tracks using cones/barriers/markings/posts which are supplied in the editing feature. There are also many different community made layouts to download on the internet too so that should keep me amused for a while. biggrin
