Hi there

I suspect I'm lighting the touch paper, but here goes...

I'm looking to spend £25k on a modern performance car to replace a classic car. Ideally, I'm looking for something 'special', certainly something that I couldn't have anticipated owning when new.

I want something that will make me smile every time I walk in the garage and I need two small back seats. I'll probably do no more than 3000 miles each year and it will be a fine weather car as my Cooper S JCW will be my daily driver.

I'd like something that goes well and sounds great and hopefully won't depreciate too much, or cost me a fortune to service. I'm a bit of a perfectionist, so for that outlay, it'll need to be a good 'un...

I've shortlisted a 997 C2S, a 996 Turbo and a DB7 Vantage - all very different cars, I know, but all seem to fit the bill. Have I missed anything?

Advice appreciated.

Yep, although there's a queue forming for good ones now and beginning to move above this price-point

In reality I'd probably buy the 911 in 997C2 flavour because I'd chicken out of anything else.

A standard VXR8 will give you jaw ache from all the smiling you'll be doing. cool Plenty of options to turn it into a 200+mph super car if that floats your boat. thumbup

Can you get an XKR for that money? Best looking car on the road.

Yes. They start at £5K in the PH classifieds.

In this price range, I'd be looking at a supercharged Mustang.

TVR Cerbera?
I'd be very tempted by a Maserati Quattroporte for that money, too.

Cerbera was my first thought too...

Porsche 911 Carrera 4S (996) with low miles, Porsche switchable exhaust, in black.
I had exactly same criteria, but could not find a 996 turbo for that money that was nice enough.
I too thought about a Cerbera, but bottled it.

I don't think a TVR Sagaris will be in the sub £25k bracket yet. You can get a lovely XKR for less than £25000.

Yet? I thought they'd stopped at about £50K and started climbing again.
