I'm in a bit of a pickle at the moment, new house, family etc. I need to get rid of my weekend car and find a good all rounder. At the moment I have a tuned 350Z for the weekend and track days, also an Alfa 156 2.4Jtdm (175) for the 250 mile a week work stuff.

I need to start cutting the cost and just have the one, but I'm finding it difficult to find the right car. I have a 10K budget..

The 156 is a nice car, a bit slow and cost's a fortune to keep running.
Tried a 159 2.4 diesel, it was horribly sluggish and crap on fuel.. I couldn't live with it day to day.
335d is out of my price range, also I like something slightly rare.
Looked at a Peugeout 407 2.7 V6 HDI, nice car but heavy and sluggish (Maybe a re-map?)
Mazda 6 MPS, nice car.. Looks boring and also fuel economy sucks, but I love the pop out sat nav.

I'm an acceleration junkie, not sure what else there is?

Audi A8/E60 5 series offer a good blend of comfort toys and performance for well with your budget.

Couldn't find an A8 on the trader, but there were some 530d's about. Only thing I found was the mileage was generally very high.. Looking at 130K+ on a fair few of them.

For some reason BMW's never tickled me fancy.. Not sure why!.?

What exactly are you spending 3k a year on for your alfa? I just spent 450 on a cambelt, water pump, and thermostat

I have to service and run both cars, the 350z and the Alfa.. New pad's / oil / tax / tyres / MOT's / whatever goes wrong with the Alfa.. Then on top insurance and petrol / diesel.

It get's expensive quickly.

I think my Alfa just had new shocks, wishbones, new cambelt / pump, new clutch and DMF and pad's changing.. Came to a lot!..

Ah right I sorry for some reason I just didn't think you were quoting an all in price so to speak. Probably a good sign I should go to bed.

ah good luck your going to be a little stuck for a commuter mobile that meets your 250mile a week commute needs that will give you your required acceleration fix after a 350z.

Yeah, I feel like I am TBH!.. Oh man, if I have to drive something like an Avensis diesel to work everyday I'll be cranky for the next 35 years.!

Good point, not a bad Idea.. Was looking at the VXR / Cupra and ST..

My 350z packs in around 220Bhp per tonne, the focus is around 160 Bhp per tonne and the Alfa is 125Bhp per tonne.

So it's somewhere in the middle. It's a possibility.

How about a late CLK320 cdi Sport?
It's one of those cars that's off the radar for most (especially amongst PH'ers)

Fair old bit of shove in these, 220bhp or thereabouts, 60 in 7 seconds. A lovely drive too. With the Sport bodykit I think they still look more than £10k's worth too. A lovely thing to waft your arse about in.

They do fit the bill, what's people's general thought on the stigma of them being old man's cars?.. I'm 26 LOL!..

Don't think there's a rulebook really. It's not one for the kids, but I wouldn't have thought a CLK ever to be an old man's car... We're talking W209 shape with the Sport kit on.

I'd Google a photo but I'm on the Crapberry.
