I'm currently looking for a new daily drive and have my heart set on a Cayenne Turbo, however plans have changed and i need a diesel for business use so the Cayenne has to go on the back burner for a while!

Enter the RRS TDV8...

I'm quite liking all of the reviews about the TDV8 it seems a great engine and vehicle combined. Generally the reviews are very good but there are also those that are not particularly good, usually regarding turbo issues... Is it common or am i worrying unnecessarily? Should i buy one?!

Any of your comments good or bad will be greatfully appreciated...

I've said it before & I'll say it again... The internet is the wrong place to go for research! It's human nature to be very vocal if you have a gripe but you never see threads started with titles such as: "130,000 miles in 2x years and hasn't missed a beat!" wink

I've got a TDV8 RRS and yes, they really are that good. I also drive the 4.4 which, although nicer, is not available in the RRS.

Thanks, i've came accross this before whilst doing my research.

I assume it is only a small number of failures considering the mass sales...

So, 1 major failure in a single car indicates that the entire population of TDV8's are unexploded bombs waiting to go off in spectacular fashion?

I think a little perspective is needed here. There are thousands of TDV8s on the road, so 1 failure suddenly means all of us who run such inherently unreliable cars should panic and sell up immediately?

I'll just keep mine for now! ;-)

... Not my words, but maybe your chap from above.

I agree that considering the amount sold, the amount of cars with 'problems' is minimal

... And for your information, if you do a search for turbo failures, you'll find more than ONE instance.

..exactly as I said, minimal failures so all is good

Personally, I find the HST styling a little 'vulgar'...

...but then I'm not the one buying it. wink

It is much more aggressive than the HSE but is it not a RR 'Sport'? I think the HST is how the RRS should have been in the first place. The HSE is fairly understated. Why not buy a normal RR?

P.s I have an Exige so pretty much everything looks understated to me!

Think of it like the difference between 'Old Money' and 'New Money'... wink

To think I just asked about tdv8 opinions, I'm baffled!

In a word: "Yes".

I've got a 2007 RRS TDV8 having previously had a SL55 AMG and although they are chalk & cheese, I absolutely love the RRS.

The only thing that has gone on it was the alternator which is a very common failure.

Without wanting to be shot down in flames, what about the Cayenne diesel if it's a Cayenne you want?

Also, I've had 3 rrs 2 tdv6's and a tdv8 and honestly I can't see the "major" difference between the two. Having said that I do only potter about so maybe I'm not getting the benefit. I think if I was buying another rrs now though I'd go for a tdv6 without the tdv8 premium.

Hope that makes sense.
