BMW E46 SMG 2001

Hi All, I have a 2001 December E46 M3 SMG, had it 3 Years its done 139,800 miles total with Full service history most Main dealer, had a new SMG box 4 years ago megger cost !!!!! I now have trouble starting and selecting Reverse three or more attempts then it will go and be ok for a few days then back again My local BMW specialist done a Diagnostic check and re booted computor, what I have now noticed is the Reversing Lights and parking sensors DO NOT WORK is there a sensor or relay that is playing up, the bonnet switch seems ok . Any ideas what to try next.

There's a reverse light switch on the gearbox, it is probably that, the car's body doesn't see it is in reverse so the PDC or lights won't come on.

Thank you for your help, is it a DIY job ?? also I have a Sat nav with Reversing camera wired direct to Reversing light bulb holder in boot could this be the cause of the trouble, this is my 1st posting I would like to email you when I am allowed, Regards Bill.

It could be a DIY job, it would be unplug the switch, unscrew it, and screw a new one in.

The other stuff might be related though, I'd look to see if that can be removed temporarily, or the switch checked to see if it is the switch, or some part of the extra wiring.
