Hi

I have recently incurred some light damage to my Mk5 Golf when it was parked on the side of the road. I think someone has clipped it on the passenger side wing and bumper.

I live in Surrey.

I have just received a quote from my local bodywork garage for 475 inc vat parts and labour. This seems quite steep but I don't really have a benchmark to go against.

Does this sound about right to people?

Cheers

Chris

Probably cheaper to get a replacement wing in the same colour if you browse owner forums or ring a few scrappies.

that is DAMN steep. WHAT PARTS????? knock the dent out near enough, light skim of filler, prime and paint. job done. £200 absolute tops including paint and materials but it would likely be lower.

Do not do this!

The colour will not match. Every colour will have many codes and the chances of you finding one that is the same is pretty small.

What you have been quoted seems about right. They will have to repair the damage, prep and paint not just the damaged panel but also blend into the door.

i agree on the colour match. but you wouldn't have to go all the way back to the door to blend it, as long as you mix the colour right.

The quote says £280 for labour, £115 for paint and materials plus VAT. Just had another one through from what I thought was a reputable local garage and they want £750!

FYI a new wing is only £50-£60 and their easy to change so you could order a new wing and just get a quote for painting it? fit it yourself maybe?

Yep. I had a quote for a similar incident. £754 was the quote from vw. Apparently the stays at the back of the wing were bent and needed replacing plus the bumper needed taking off to do the repair properly.

I don't think they trying to rip me off, since last time when the wing and bumper were badly scratched but no dents etc, the cost was £175.

My bodywork chap in Basingstoke would have that out for way under £200, with a light blow over the panel to blend the repair in. PM me if you want his details

There is a really good independent body shop near you in Kingston / New maldon
Who will do a great repair on your Golf for far less than your quote (maybe half that but you will need to go and see them to get a quote)

Ask for Gary
He has done lots of cars for us and always does a great job at a reasonable price..
