After a disembowelling 4 weeks - the boys at Austec have done their stuff. Picked up the S on saturday - complete with engine totally rebuilt from the bottom up - including a new clutch and lightened fly wheel.

I'm now officially getting 170bhp (during a gentle session on the rolling road) and have to go easy on the revs for the next thousand miles (doh) - but can already feel that she's much improved. Mike reckons that once the new engine is run in - doing the Unichip (Podie) upgrade should take her to around 190bhp. That - will be impressive.

In the meantime - how to get through 1000 miles as quick as poss ... now let me see

Nice one Danny-

good to hear you got millie back in one piece!

May give mine some competition for the highest powered V6S in natural tune (runs for cover)

As I'm about to move out of Richmond in the next couple of weeks, we really should hook up for a beer or a hoon or both -

Hoon before beer obviously

and anyone else who fancies it of course?

Hi Tim - good to hear you ! Not sure Millie qualifies for a natural tune as she's got polished/ported heads and a fast road cam. Lightened/balanced fly wheels probably count as cheating as well - not that I care, she's bldy ace !!

Am generally around in the evenings though not this coming weekend. Anywhere in particular you fancy for a bit of zoom ?

Hope the house move goes well (hate moving house),

Danny

Just out of interest Danny, how much were the polished and ported heads? I'm considering getting that done, maybe the Unichip first. Not sure.

I've thought about getting this done...

straw poll on the most effective way of squeezing out more power from the Ford V6:

Hot Cam?
Polish & Port?
Unichip?

all of the above?

Mines pushing 200lb ft of torque at the moment, so I'm wondering what would be the best way to squeeze out some more....

I'm afraid they were done before I got the car so I can't give you exact numbers - but it wasn't cheap. I believe it was done as part of a job to change her over from leaded fuel (!?) and putting the fast road cam in. Pretty sure the whole lot came to more than £2K in around 1998.

If you were going to do this - you'd want to do it before the unichip job though - as it'll change the performance profile of the car and you'd have to get it remapped again after.

Cheers,

WG

All of the above probably The boys reckon there's another 20bhp to be had by the unichip (plus the smoothness that Podie mentioned) - so it's gotta happen really - particularly at that price. Not sure what the torque figures were for Millie - they were being leisurely with her though, so not that indicative until it's redone in a thousand miles time.

Also there's the fuel pressure regulator to consider.

Can't wait to get her on the track - shame it probably won't be till next year now.

Hmmmm.... I could swap the cam and head myself, from what I've heard/read it should be quite easy.

I can do a head swap on my mini in 2-3 hours Apparently it's pretty similar, setting the timing is also very much the same so I am told. Line up the dots. Would save a lot on labour.

Then go for it - you just need a machine shop to do the polishing / air flow itself. Nice one geeza !

Not if you have a head porting tool you don't. I think I still have one somewhere. Although I'll need a lot of time off, and the company has decided against allowing any holidays until next year due to deadlines.

Also when I did minis I had Dave Vizard's Excellent TBASE to go off.

If anything it will be the Unichip first, then the heads. Will have to wait and see.

I'm now getting to grips with what my S3 needs, I've got the 45 cam but B****r all else, no wonder it runs like a bag of s**t.
Are you saying that the normal fuel pressure valve is not chucking enough through and as part of the deal that needs doing.
