Somebody on this forum made a cheaper option (not CF though) than the Reverie ones some a couple of years ago, but I don't recall. I'm sure someone will remember...

Not according to macgtech! They said the side scoops made a big difference in engine bay temps!

see 5th post from the bottom of this thread.

O/T...

Does extending the engine air scoop over the cabin make an appreciable difference to the amount of air entering the engine bay?

^depending on shape and how far it extends, that might not slow you down !

Drag ..square of speed
Hp ...quad of speed (on an aerodynamic machine that is laugh)

Scooping is useless if you cant extract at 2-4 x the intake surface area/rate ... extraction is free in a low pressure area... no need to have draggy scoops then.. and warmer extracted air being less dense might help EH ?? ....... all been done to death, only a few grasp the cool freebies cool

Waste of time if your air filter is not isolated from the warm air rising from the engine and exhaust. I wouldn't bother having the scoop if i didn't have an airbox as well. ............ if its being done for performance.
And then on the other hand there is a lot more to be done and not done if it is ALL about performance.

Exactly, LOL!!!

I think for cars that are mostly used on the roads, very little benefit can tangibly be found in some of the body mods that get discussed vs their downsides.... if it's a pure track car (see MacG), it's a slightly different story tho'.

I fitted side scoops to my green GTR after a couple of months and I DID notice a difference from running without, oh and it didn't slow the car down due to drag either. Road use no track use.
And it enhances the overall side view of the car !!

So can we discuss the cool freebies again?
I have the hairdressers version and am continually plagued in the summer anyway with very hot air from the top engine vents being drawn into the cockpit. This I guess means that the pressure in the cockpit and above the rear clam is lower than the pressure under the clam. So what would you do to decrease the pressure under the rear clam? I have already removed the very restrictive rear grill material. From Macgtechs comments it seems that sheeting the bottom of the engine bay may do this but I would prefer if possible to suck more air out than feed less in.
Any experience of achieving this anybody? Of course being cooler in the cockpit is not the main reason for this. I would like lower engine bay temps and possibly more rear grip wink

markwebb I fitted an extractor fan on my old Can-Am which ducted the air out under the car, it was fitted next to the oil breather catch tank thing, had it switched, worked a treat, never had any fumes in the cabin after that.
