Big Nissan/Nismo announcement due through the night, catch it on Radio Le Mans!

No idea what it is..

Hopefully a full factory LMP1 project

Or, a GTE GTR!

Or, maybe something less exciting.

All electric LMP1 car to run in 2014 as Garage 56. Can't say I'm very excited about that no matter how much marketing spin they put on it.

With a fire breathing V8, silly wide slicks, wings the size of an aeroplane, and crazy lairy paintwork...

I guess it will hum well for the first hour, then pits for a recharge which takes 14hrs? Or are they going to install Scalextric powered slots around the track? biggrin

Or are they allowed to remove and replace power packs at pit stops?

Darren Cox, Nissan’s Global Motorsports Directorsaid Nissan is currently evaluating an undisclosed type of propulsion technology with the ACO and FIA and the feasibly of it fitting within the new-for-2014 LMP1 regulations, which sees a switch towards energy allocation and efficiency.

No specific timeframe for Nissan’s planned LMP1 effort has been announced.

"We're in uncharted territory here,” Cox said. “We don't know how good this technology is going to be. We're obviously doing a huge amount with simulation at the moment. We think we will be pretty accurate when we actually get there in terms of the simulation. But we need to run these cars and need to work out how it all works."
I read that as, we have an idea but have never tested it and have no idea if it will work and if it does work we have no idea if it will be ready in time.

Yeah thats how I read it. At least it gets them an entry at Le Mans again though without having to do too much, so the marketing machine can do its stuff.

It'll be charging plates in the track. same tech as the drayson Lola uses in the pits, but around the track.

That's my own speculation, but it is the next logical step for the technology.
