Renault Diagnostics Menu

Hi all

Can't find another area to start this so I guess here will have to do!

I am wondering if any of you wizz kids out there have come across a diagnostics menu on renault carminat systems? It appears after having the battery disconnected and prompts for a 4 digit numeric password. After a couple of restarts it goes away and the radio woks fine so unless it is the radio code screen and it has updated from somewhere else I'm stumped. I'm hoping I can get in and clear fault logs etc without buying a clip.

and the car you may ask, do I have to say?

Renault Grand Espace 3.0Dci Turbo V6 with 6 speed auto box and steptronic type shift, and yes I have overtaken plenty of cars uphill
