Cheap Insurance Recommendations

Ok so I have been out of the driving scene for about 3 years due to University and lack of funds. I am now working again and hope to pick up a cheap motor in the next couple of months. I know that my no claims will more than likely be invalid now (after some research) so I need to know what sort of car you would recommend that would be fairly cheap to run. I am hoping to spend no more than £1500 or about £1000 if I can. I have looked around and it appears that things like the Citroen C1 and C2 or a Fiat Punto may be the way forward. Doesn't have to be a big car as I just want to build my no claims back up again.

I'm just gutted that I have never claimed in 20 years but I am now starting again. Ah well any help would be most appreciated.
