I got my annual car insurance renewal and as usual checked the price by doing a comparison with all my details, just a name change

As usual, the new quote was £85 cheaper, so I rang the insurance company to query.

Eventually after a bit of haggling they agreed to knock £80.

I then told them I had a flyer enclosed with my renewal docs which guaranteed to match any like for like quote.

Their response: "Ah yes, but that doesn't include ourselves."

No amount of haggling could get them to budge. Nowhere on the front or back of the flyer does it mention that minor detail.

I can't see their logic other than to pee people off.

New customer = good deal.

Loyal customer with several years behind them = take it or leave it Buster.

Strange. I'm sure someone will come on and attempt to justify, but it happens all the time and I can't see any repeat customer being happy. It makes you wonder if there is any point in brand loyalty any more.

Don't renew, and set up another policy as a new customer. Job jobbed wink

They don't want you to spend less money, and there's no such thing as loyalty anymore with insurance (imo)

I've always assumed that they put a price on the hassle of changing - an amount where people will go "sod it, I'll just renew". Personally I'm not quite that brash with my money, and go for the best quote each year.
