Whats the oldest food you've eaten?

I'm half way through a tin of Baxter's Cream of Tomato soup that I found in the cupboard with a best before date of June 2003.

Tastes bloody good and I'm still breathing.


Edited for speeling. I suppose now would be a good time to apologise for the lack of an apostrophe in the title too....

I've been clearing out the cupboards recently and so a couple of weeks ago made a lasagne with some dried pasta hailing from some time around 2007. (The BBE date was in 2009).

The sheets disintegrated quite impressively during cooking but it was otherwise fine. Of course dried stuff doesn't really go "off" as such.

When were sell dates put on canned food?

I say that, as last year I found a can of Corned beef tucked at the back of my parents pantry, the lable was plainly ancient
and there was no sell by date on the can, nowt.

It tasted fine. So, 1990's ? or before?

I suppose that's fine as long as it wasn't anything other than a prawn...but then a prawn after 10 years probably wouldn't look like a prawn still...what did it taste like?

In which case he'll probably be very glad it didn't taste like a prawn

I have some tinned tuna in the cupboard and I can't for the life of me find a date on the tin. There is a code of some sort, but nothing that resembles a date. It can't be more than 3 years old though.

Just back from the mother in law's for half term. Came in from the pub a couple of days ago and helped myself to an unopened pack of ham from the fridge. Didn't notice it was a month out of date until the morning after.

I'm still here, suspect it was a booby trap though!

I found this (canned) fruit cake in one of my late mother-in-law's cupboards last April.

It looked good, smelt and tasted delicious.

The "best before" date? 1995 !!!

It could well have been around 20 years old!

as long as its kept cool and dry fruitcake will last indefinatly.
good thing to remember when doomsday comes!

I've been away with the army a couple of times used the old style ration packs. One of the things was made in 1992.
