Slippy stuff on the road
Discussion
Hi,
I'm pretty sure I hit a patch of oil or diesel or something suitably slippery while on my drive back from the office today. I felt the back end trying to overtake me (only doing about 15-20mph on a large 2-lane roundabout in the outside lane) and had to apply quite a bit of counter-steer to keep inside the lane.
My question is this...
is it normal for slippery stuff such as above to stay on your tyres for a couple of hundred metres afterwards? I ask because at the next roundabout I was going even slower but felt the rear-end playing up again. After getting the car home I had an inspection and drove it in a very quiet area doing brisk speeds and no sign of any problem.

Had this over the Christmas break - on a roundabout near me is a Hiways depot, and they regularly spill diesel onto the link road between 2 roundabouts. It is a downhill left hand bend, with a wierd camber due to the joining lane from the depot.
I ended up facing the wrong way as I hit the diesel, and fortunately it was Christmas, and there was no traffic coming up behind me.
Any other day of the year, and my car would have been a write off.

Post this in the Bike Banter section and see how bad the diesel problem is.....
I found the roads very greasy this morning, and I was only on a push-bike!Worst times are always damp days after a period of dry weather, or when some doughnut decides to piss diesel everywhere.
