PH Feature Requests
Discussion
Just a couple of suggestions/requests for Ted to consider:
(1) When I've made a post on a particular topic and click the 'Back To Topic' link it takes me to the first page. This is fine if you view latest post first (setting in PH prefs), but I do it the other way round and I think this link should take me to the last page in this instance.
(2) Recommendations. I suggested this a while ago and Ted seemed to like it but I suspect it's been lost in the sea of PH-related work. The idea is that you can recommend a post as worthy of reading. There is then a ranking that can be viewed giving lists such as '10 Most recommended posts' on all forums, then customised to each particular forums as you go in. This can be expanded to show number of recs, recs/post in user profiles and perhaps even a 'user of the month' who has, in the opinion of the PH community, made the best posts (simply by having the highest number of recs).
Note that negative 'recs' are not allowed!
(3) When posting a message the message text area is very narrow in Mozilla/Firefox. A fair number of PH users use these browsers and their use is on the increase so it might be worth 'fixing'? I believe the fix is very simple (I got my mate to do the same to his website
) so I can find out what it is if that would be of use.
(4) Again on the subject of the links provided to different areas of the website when someone has posted, it would be nice if it were possible to set this in preferences to always go to a certain place, say the topic you've just posted to if making a reply. I suppose this might be an issue because it is an advertising opportunity as it stands, but I thought I'd suggest it anyway.
Overall, this is by far the best message board I use. Using the Liverpool FC forums has brought into sharp focus just how good the functionality provided by PH actually is. [AmericanAccenture]Good job Ted![/AmericanAccent]

Yep.
One of the problems with the current software is that it's grown over time and as any developer will know, things get a bit unstructured. That's why many of the suggestions made over the last couple of years haven't been implemented.
However a new version of the Gassing Station is in build. It will look pretty much the same but with the rough edges sorted out. More importantly it will be structured slightly differently under the covers making it easier for me to make changes.
I'll be building many of these suggestions into the new system or even if not in the first build then subsequent revisions.
ETA for the new stuff? Probably another month away yet...
