Anyone had an X5 with driveshaft problems, clanking and banging fromt eh rear end, my cousing and her husband have been quouted two and a half grand, surely changing a driveshaft doesnt run to that much, was thinking a couple or three hundred quid, the parts dont seem that expensive, is there anythign else that goes on them, think its about 2007, 3.0 Diesel model ?

You sure it's not a rear differential problem? Seems an excessive price.

I asked her that but apparently they said driveshaft.

Even for a rear diff and both rear driveshafts, at BMW I would be asking questions !

Do tell us where this is so we can not go there please smile

I know X5s are costly to fix - you can tell by the sheer number driving around with allsorts of maladies - but that's outrageous.

I new diff + 2 driveshafts might be 2.5K - a driveshaft on it's own cannot realistically be more than £600 fitted, can it??

They are coming up at Euro Car Parts for circa 300, and the garage have quote 5 hrs labour, even at 100 per hour it only adds up to 800, I reckon its a 400/500 job realistically. Unless hshe has missed something then the garage are taking the pee.
