After about 14 years out of the UK I'm returning for 4-5 months and I need to get a car for that time.

Has to be a estate and since I'm going to be doing 2k per month of motorway miles it needs fuel efficient and reliable

I have looked at the long term car hire and it's about 650-800 UKP per month plus the excess

Anyone offer any other options and what type of car should I be looking at ?

(bear in mind that it needs to be reliable ;-))

Budget is the key bit. Personally I'd think about a smallish-engined Japanese estate if reliability is the key point.

Actually I was thinking more something like a petrol Accord Tourer - you'll suffer a bit on economy over a diesel, but you've got a lot less to go bang.

Yeah I was thinking about an Accord Tourer too I had a test drive of one in Japan .. I was looking at a mondeo estate also but they all have rocket-ship mileage
