Having just got rid of my Legacy (estate) and gotten an Impreza (Saloon), I find I miss my Legacy's insane ability to swallow up bulky items, this was made apparent when my wife, 2 days after getting rid of the Legacy asks me to pick up a double matress. Long story short I DID manage to get it in, but it was ridiculous.

So I'm after a estate, something less than £1000, that i'm going to treat like dirt, engine power doesn't matter, would like to try something different after a Legacy even though it was amazing, a few luxuries wouldn't go a miss either.

PS. I know V70's are well regarded, what about V40's?

There's a nice V70 for grabs near me for £1495.

Bargain!

For £1k it doesn't really matter. Just buy what ever is close to you and in good condition.

If you are looking for specific models then I have no complaints against the Volvo 960 we had. Probably the best built, most durable and well put together vehicle we owned.

mk3 golf 1.9 TD (AAZ engined)estate!

veg powered cubic carrying capacity FTW.

And you can turn teh fuelling/boost up easily, so similar to a TDi

Got one last month, and have stuck over 2 k miles on it. its slow compared to the e36, but ideal for slugging on the m8 and carrying loads of crap!

This might be one of those complete bullst claims non-petrolheads make, but I seem to remember someone telling me a V40 is a Focus in drag?
That's the V50. It's a MK2 Focus Estate underneath.

Is that straight Veg oil? or is mod required?

And indeed the 'new' V40 too, heavily tweaked mind you. The old S/V40 was indeed a joint venture with Mitsubishi and is a Carisma in drag... nicer place to be though IMHO.

As for snotters, you won't regret a V70.

running at 30% the now, as I'm just seeing how far I can go.

double heat of the plugs on a cold start, and it seems ok so far. think 100% would be too thick in winter up here.

More or less sort of right on the V40 I think, still no bad thing.
When people talk about X being a Y in drag it's always a massive oversimplification.

V40's going to be too small for your needs.

So, 940/960 - indestructible. V70, more pleasant to drive..

Had a V70 and a 940 at the same time, both replaced with a Saab 9-5 Aero, don't discount those but the boot is not as large as a 940..

Wasn't suggesting it was a bad thing, just that, if it's Focus sized, it's probably not going to be too much better as a matress transportation solution. Haven't really spent any time in the Volvo to have a good idea of how big it is inside.
Yea I don't think you'd get a double mattress in it.

V70 is a good shout but I reckon an E55 wagon could be had for not much of your moneys if you're willing to risk some minor falling apart.
