Can any body advise on where to look for info on or what recommendations they have on range rover versus sport. I used to have old classics, test drove a sport yesterday but finding time to try a L322 is proving difficult.
Really only the 4.2 s/c that interests me.
Also whats better/more important, newer or less miles? I'm talking 05/06/07 and price in mid to high teens

the RRS is a different car to a RR, the RRS is a Disco 3 styled like a Range Rover, setup more for road use
the RR drives more like a big 4 x 4, more roomy and luxurious inside, bigger boot and rear seats
the RRS drives more like a car, probably the best LR to drive on the road, its a Disco 3 inside with more plush trim/different colour plastic
you will get more RRS for your money

Fair point taken, but, when you live 500 to 700 miles (plus a ferry) away and you're self-employed getting time for raiding in the deep is very difficult.

Also do you want to off road in it. For some reason LR have totally lost the plot in recent years and gone for bling tactic w
king machines rather than off roaders. This means stupid large alloys that you'll struggle to get good off road tyres for. The earlier L322's had 18" wheels though which offers up more choice but no SC models.

My parents ran a RRS 2005 4.2S/C for 4 years and about 40k miles.
No huge problems, but the suspension bushes liked to wear out prematurely.
Other than that, it was just annual servicing and brakes (only one set of discs during their ownership though), care of our local main dealer.
It also liked to get punctures with it's 22" Overfinch tyres.
In late 2010, they wanted to change it for a facelift RR. They tried the full fat version, but didn't get on with it.
They ended up buying a 5 litre Sport in 2011.
I guess that last paragraph relates to the other comments about trying them both to see for yourself.

Nah, they're still cracking off-road, even with the OE Pirelli Scorpions.

You can get 19" rims on the SC, for which you can get some nice rubber for.

Hello Malcolm. We've had both, my wife currently has a Discovery 4 and I have a L322 4.2 Supercharged. Our sport was a nice car and drove more like a car than a 4x4 but we did find it a bit cramped. Especially when ferrying our son and his friends to cricket and rugby matches with all their kit. We had a head on crash with it and it was written off so my wife replaced it with the Discovery which has a lot more room in back. The 4.2 SC is a different kettle of fish, a superb vehicle.
I notice your in Orkney and my advice, for what it's worth, is don't buy a used vehicle in Scotland. We live in Aberdeenshire and Edinburgh but I work in London Monday - Thursday. Since I've been working in London I've bought several cars down here and if you take your time and do your homework you'll pick up a far better car. Most 4x4's down here have never even seen a field and there is no salt on the roads in winter, or what they call winter!. Given that your so far North
it could be worth a few days off and a short break. I bought my L322 Autobiography ultra low milage with a full L/R warranty privately for approx 10k less than I would have paid up North.
