Hey all!

Usually in the TVR section but now back into Italian car ownership...

Just collected a 99 V reg 2.0 in Black with SP3 and telephone dial alloys. Handling is so neutral and the revvy engine is a wonder, makes you want to yo-yo throughout the rev range in 2nd gear all day long. Am in love....

Its done 95,000 miles but the last service was 75,000, I am planning to get the full service done inc the cam belt change. Prior to purchasing the car I had a long test drive and everything seemed ok, is there anythign else I should look out for?

Finally, can any one recommend any good specialists in or around the London area for the major service? I have dealt with one in Nth West London when I had a 164 and I wouldn't go back there again...

Thanks in advance...

If it has been properly serviced the cambelt should already have been done - at 72,000 miles. Alfa actually recommend changing them every 36,000.

If the cambelt was done on 72k, then just go for the 96k service.

I too have recently picked up a similar car, and am also in love. (alfa red 156 2.0 TS SP3 on a V) the handling and poise is something else and the free revving twin spark is a delight. Would recommend changing belts and tensioners if there is no record of change, and keep your eyes peeled on the dip stick. other than that happy motoring.

ck.the eng.oil every other time you fill the petrol tank. the biggest fault with all late alfa cars is that they do not have an electronic dip stick!!!!!!!
the alfa 33 had one.
the alfa 75 had one,even the 1800 carb.version
all versions of 164 had elec.dip sticks

was it an alfa oversight...NO...
the 16v a155 engine had an oil warning leval device .alfa could have fitted one to all the later cars. eddythealfaman
