Folks,

I'm after some help. This pox ridden heap of Blackpool shyte still isn't fixed from it's clutch hydraulics issue due to the general malaise and disinterest in the great British service industry. The battery was almost flat when I went to collect (i.e. tow the car home to fix myself) but the doors did open and with a jumper battery the windows were lowered to allow me to steer the car through the window. It's been on charge for a while now, and starts. Everything now works as it should (electrically - clutch is still not touched) except the driver's side window which is stuck down.

There is no sound from the relay, which I assume is in the door? The switch unit lights up with side lights. The door mirror unit and door open buttons inside and out work. The passenger side relay clicks and the motor runs up or down. The driver side relay is silent regardless. I have checked the fuse and as suspected it was fine.

Any thoughts? Relay? Is it on the common parts list sticky above? How do I get the door apart - short of ripping it apart with a crowbar which is pretty close to where I'm at with this car.

I really wish I hadn't bought a TVR (and as a side issue, really wish I could wipe out 99% of the population and replace them with people who give a toss and actually attempt to fulfill what they agree to do - it's little surprise businesses are going down the pan and everyones' unemployed. They deserve it. Useless cretins)

Have you tried unplugging the connector? I believe this sometimes resets things.

Not yet Steve - too dark. Do you know if I can get access to it via those allen key screws visible at front of the door when open?

The window box's are above the fuel tank in the boot IIRC full the pannel back and see if it is in there and just unplug it and plug it back in first.

Thanks Scott. I'll try that tomorrow evening. Glad I have a decent car cover for it.

I'd try unplugging the box in the boot too, before you start chasing other things. There is a control box stuffed in the door too, although I can't remember what it's for, possibly mirrors...

It's not likely to be the control boxes in the boot if the other window works - it will be the wiring connectors inside the door. It always is...

The door card comes off with countersunk allen screws round the edge, all fairly obvious when you look at it. Guddle around inside the door and there are a number of connectors - usually corroded. Clean them all up and things will likely start working. For a permanent fix replace them with proper waterproof ones.

Thank you gents.

Brakedust from here (Brett) and my father have volunteered to come over this weekend and help me sort this car out.

The door card looks to be sealed with mastic along the top at least. I have a leak anyway (sat outside a garage for 3 weeks and now the driver's footwell is full of water - common, I know).

Given what I've had to spend on this car in the month I've owned it, contrasted with how much I paid and how little I've driven it, a window fix as cheap as cleaning up connections is more the kind of thing I fancy paying for until spring time! laugh

The door card shouldn't be sealed with mastic, though there is a rubber cap at the front edge.

You should be able to get a new rubber bit from the usual TVR specialists.

And the verdict is...

Regulator. It's goosed. Smells burnt out, runs without glass fitted / doesn't run with glass fitted. I see they're nice and cheap.

Why me? It's always me.

Probably worth replacing the velvet covered rubber in the window channels. When its worn it can add considerable drag and might well lead to the premature demise of the regulator. Nice cheap and easy job - you cna get the right rubber from Woolies Trim and it just presses in. http://www.woolies-trim.co.uk/c-290-single-track.a...
