Living without the M

4 weeks after purchase a Dutch truck lost a tyre in front of me. I've now spent just as long without the car as with it. Fortunately it was purely cosmetic to the front and rear bumper and the undertrays did their job but its taken until last week for authorisation for the suspension checks ahead of the rest of the work.
All is 100% so now its the waiting game for the 2nd stage to be authorised. It's been pre-approved dependant on results of the alignment work but the insurers are dragging heels as I am not using thier "chipsaway" type repair shop (no disrespect to chips away do a great job but you wouldnt go to them for such work as this).
I pushed to use my own choice of bodyshop as they work on Porsche, Maserati, Ferrari, Lambo and... M cars and I wanted to make sure all the parts were original M parts and work to be undertaken by people that know the cars. They are part of the dick lovett group so hopefully based on other feed back the work will be as new, just like when I picked the car up.
I am filling my time now watching Discovery Turbo and Dave, on the plus side I'll have the car back in a few weeks and the waiting will make picking the keys up that much more special. Now I know how those with cars on back order feel. Doing my commute in the old mini is no fun at 6 in the morning!
Cost of repairs is a bit eye watering but at least I only have to pay the excess (but chasing the truck firms insurance...)

Is that Dick Lovett 'Spraymaster' by any chance? I'm based not far from Swindon and have a little rust spot on my M5 between rear bumper and tailgate which needs properly attending to. If so it'd be interesting to hear your feedback on the quality of DL's bodyshop people when you get it back. Hope it comes back looking better than before!

Given the stuff they've got at Dick Lovett Sporting (or whatever they call the exotic franchise) sounds like it should be in safe hands - be interested to see it at some point. Went into DL Swindon not long since and salesman mentioned there'd been floods of calls for your car when it was up on their site - sounds like they spent a mint prepping it for sale too...Once its done perhaps a little celebratory drive out the the Freke?!

The damage is nothing more than cosmetics with front/rear bumpers being cracked and under trays did their job but when you add up the cost of the parts, the paint etc it soon adds up. Actually I need to go back and review the quote but it covers a raft of little things that a non specialist would miss, such as rear PDC now on a solid tone rather than progressive yet all sensors worked just it was all or nothing. So new rear PDC controller and sensors, new front PDC sensors

Basically I am away on a trip up north and phoned to see if I should be planning to take my partners car or should I expect the M. They said they cannot commit but I "should" be looking forward to a drive in the M!
I am festidious when it comes to paint work and body care, a friend of mine supplies paints to the luxury market and I will take it to him first to check the results as I wont be settling for anything but top result...

Finally picked the car up today and first impressions are excellent. Need to really get my eye in on the work but I left without worries or concerns. They also said any problems phone them up and take it back, from start to finish they've been brilliant on the contact front (calling when they said they would).
