Just watched Ronin and I was wondering if anyone here has ever been in a car chase either with the police or someone else where the rules of the road went out the window and you either had to get away or tried to disable another vehicle. If so what were the circumstances and consequences of the incident.

Not really interested in boring "saw some lad i went to school wiv n not seen him for 5 years so pulled a u'ey n chased him 'alf way across town innit bruv" stories.

My friend once had to persue his stolen car whilst the cops were making their way. It's a pretty funny story, especially since it was snowing at the time.....

Many years ago, chased some shoplifters across Torquay - my boss driving and me on the phone to the Police giving a running commentary. They took some silly risks, though we held on for as long as possible.

Was quite entertaining!

yes lots, and one has died, thankfully no innocent bystander but the pricks in the stolen car. I was chasing and deemed too dangerous due to weather and the poor driving on their part so backed off, found them five minutes later, car attached to a tree and them about 30 feet in front- well most of them, some parts were still in the car.

Green Mondeo, P reg.

didnt sleep to well for the next week wondering what I could have done differently- not alot was the answer.

I was chased by a road rage lunatic two years ago. It started with me taking a few unusual turnings and it quickly dawned on me that he was following me, added to the fact that he was flashing his lights like crazy and screaming at me out of the window every now and then. That's when I discovered that being able to lap a circuit quickly means jack st on the road, cause everytime I had a clear road I'd pull away from him, but then if I got held up for ten seconds behind a slower car he'd be right back on me. I called 999, who advised me to pull into a petrol station, presumably so there would be CCTV evidence of him smashing my car and my face in, which I thought sounded like a rubbish idea, so I decided to ignore them and flicked the car down a closed road, which he followed me down, roadworks and everything. Eventually I lost the idiot, but it must have lasted at least five minutes. Scary stuff that I'd rather not repeat!

Mate at work had his rover coupe stolen from work, just as I was leaving for home. I was in a diesel escort van :-(...chase didn't last long...I got lost as I didn't know the area that well.....and by chance stumbled apon them down a country lane as there was 2 of them and for some reason they were swapping seats.as I stopped by them...they sped off.his car was used later in a armed robbery. Maybe just as well I didn't get close enough to clobber them !...heat of them moment stuff...but I was determined !...couple of traveller kids...later caught by the boys in blue.

Years ago coming out of the local town on the Golf.. pretty open residential 30 limit, doing 30 and prick in a Rover hoons up behind me (must have been doing at least 50), who then proceeds to sit right on my tailgate.

I give him a while to back off, which he doesn't. I maintain my speed at 30 and left foot brake gently to flash the brake lights, he stays glued to my arse.

Get to the NSL, drop it down a few gears, offer a choice hand gesture in the mirror (not helping, I know tongue out) and leave him behind. Half a mile later I scrub off speed heading uphill into the next village, he reappears, again right on my tail. Still heading uphill and now in the 30 zone (with limited view) he overtakes me, cuts straight in ahead and slams on the anchors - smoke from tyres, the works. Thankfully just as he does so the road levels out and I get a clear view.. I'm down into second and neatly around him, losing no speed and doing my best to stick to the limit.

Get out the other side and pick a long straight road down which I can lose him (figure this is safer than the twisties), however thankfully by then he'd given up and chose to go the other way.

Pleased with how I handled it (although flame-proof hat donned ready for claims of provocation biggrin) however I was shaking like a sh*tting dog afterwards...

Better put my flame suit on for the next two...

16 year old me bought a Ford Mondeo 1.8. Drove it around locally during school time and one day I went to Upton Park (London) to a friends school to show off. As me and my friends were leaving to get back to school for the last period of the day to be marked in (school register was only during first and last period, so we'd bunk the rest of the periods and still be marked in for a full day)a silver Astra starts flashing at us frantically. I panicked and put my foot down and started going down lots of no entries to get rid of what we thought was the police. The Astra followed up until we hit Green Street and I quickly turned right and then left onto Shaftesbury road (as far as I can remember) and quickly got the car back to Hilda road car park off Katherine road. I shat myself and when I was in my German language lesson at the end of the day I panicked every time the door opened thinking the police had come to arrest me.

Never did find out if it was the police or just a citizen of the law trying to stop us.

Again, in the aqua colored Mondeo. I was down Oakfield road off Katherine road parked up. Sitting in the back seat with my girlfriend at the time when I noticed someone struggling to park their car in a parking space parallel. For a while I kept watching until I got fed up, got out of the car to offer my parking space up. I told the lady driving that I'll move into her spot and she could take mine. She agreed and so I jumped in the drivers seat and started my baby up. As soon as I got out of the parking bay and pulled out onto the road, a police van enters the top of the road. The next second I remember looking in my rear view mirror and seeing the police lights flashing blue. My heart sank and my stomach flipped. This was it, I was getting arrested.

I panicked and thought if I could make it to the top of the road, turn left and left again I can decamp and get away. So I put my foot down and start making headway. I look into the mirror again and see that the stupid lady who couldn't park, had pulled out in front of the police officers and had bought me some time!

I quickly turned left, and left again onto Stamford road. This was it, make or break moment. I without thinking, instinctively jumped out of the moving car at approx 15-20mph and rolled beautifully out of the car onto the road and got on my feet and started running. I ran and ran all the way to the top of the road, turned right and right again till I was on Malvern road. Stupidly I hadn't looked back to see if a police officer was behind me and thought I'd hide in someones front garden.

Consequently a few moments later the police officer walked up to me and arrested me. Poor old Sarah never did jump out of the car. She was also arrested. The car had crashed into some poor persons Land rover Discovery 1.

Never again...I feel quite shameful just telling these stories. I was a stupid idiot and I know it.

Had this once at 5 a side. Someones dad didn't take well to a particularly meaty challenge, which to be fair was late, so decided to wait for me to come out and start following me about an inch from my bumper.

After a spot of silly driving I realise he's not giving up so proceed to drive to a friend of a friends house, who was a lot of a smackhead. The desirables hanging around there seemed to put him off. Had a right slanging match with him the following week.

Noticed I do get followed quite a lot in the focus by dodgy look types. Never go home when i clock one. Lead them on merry chase for a bit.

Don't mean to sound insensitive but I think it's a bit silly for you to beat yourself up about that.

Like you say, not your fault at all, and nothing you could have done differently. In fact it could have been a lot worse and they had taken an innocent family with them.

Who knows, maybe they would have done another day, if you hadn't of been there that night.

Yes. Not as serious as some other's. Was on a motorbike, and after a few miles realized the car behind me (an awful Barina/Swift full of people) was following me. It only clicked after I noticed they ran two red lights to keep up with me, and carried on following me through a random route in the suburbs. Managed to lose them pretty quick down some small & twisty roads nearby.

It was the first time someone had died directly as a consequence of my actions. Its hard not to think about it.

I have moved on and that figure is now higher but I can sleep knowing every one of them knew the risk before they did what they did, not one was innocent.

Yes . Long story from my idiotic younger days ( 25+ yrs ago ) . No harm done , person or property, very silly thing to do at the time though. Resulted in a hefty fine and a 9 month holiday from driving

Good friend of mine raced a Volvo 850 round Falkirk one night , ragged the nuts off his Rs Turbo Escort , very enjoyable race until the Volvo turned out to be an unmarked police car.

Furthermore to the long ticking off he endured a motor free 6 month ban and a fine.

Got chased through Larbert one night while i was in the back of a honda prelude , 90 mph in a 30 while the Granada Police car nearly caught us , swerved down a dark lane and lost the chaps.

Mind you the next day he did receive a knock on the door.

Please don't flame me , i know it was all stupidity and we were young .

More than most people I would think, but a couple stick in my mind...

Late one Friday night, I chased a stolen Cavalier in my old Sierra, as the driver almost took me out going the wrong way round an island. The Police were being guided in by my mate in the passenger seat, and at another island they tried to box him in, but he broke out and I ended up performing an inadvertent PITS maneuver on him which span the Cav 180 degrees. He managed to get away again, so we carried on following him until he abandoned the car behind a fuel station & made a run for it with his four scumbag passengers.

We managed to catch all 5 of them between us & the police which I thought was a good result.

Unfortunatly the police then decided to try to prosecute me for DWDC&A, as the tt of a SGT dealing with it didnt like to see the public getting involved with chasing crims. I thought was particually harsh, but could see hus point looking back.. Luckily it got dropped , but it left a very bitter taste after trying to do the right thing.

The other side of the coin was an attempted car jacking by 3 types in a V6 Laguna, who decided they deserved my Escort Cosworth more than me, attempted to block me in at a busy junction over a dual carridgeway. I had to dive across a red light and cut across two lanes of NSL traffic to make my escape. They followed me, and a V6 Laguna is a surprisingly quick car when piloted by a lunatic! Worst thing was I had no phone signal after repeatedly trying to call 999 frown , so took to the back lanes & drove like an absolute maniac, taking big big risks to get away. I threw in as many random turns as I could and eventually lost them. Drove to the cop shop & reported it, but never even got a call back about it frown. I have to say that was one of the scariest experiences of my life.

when I was 15 or 16 I did work experience with Leicester Police.
One of my days was spent in the "Response Car". We spent the day doing usual car checks etc and eventually came upon an unregistered one.
The driver took off and we chased them through the city at about 40 to 50 mph (which seemed fast at the time). They eventually hit a bollard. The driver was 14 years old and sitting on a fuel can to allow him to see over the dash.
I was buzzing for the rest of the day!
