Last year I bought SWMBO a 7 seater X5 3.0D SE on a 57 plate. The car was purchased from Arnold Clark Volvo in Aberdeen as the BMW dealer had no 7 seaters available which we need as we have 4 kids. I purchased a 2 year warranty which gives us a total of 27 months once you factor in the 3 month freebie warranty.

In November one of the front wheel bearings started to get a wee bit noisy so I took it in and they changed both front bearings without any hassle, gave me a loan car and changed a fuse free of charge (the headlight washer pump was not working).

Now, 3 weeks ago the wife complained of a loss of power so I took it for a spin and I reckoned the turbo wasn't working. I have a good friend with his own garage who used to be the workshop controller for the local BMW dealer and I would rather that he worked on it so I called Arnold Clark 'Clark Plan' head office in Glasgow who said it would be fine to use him and claim back the cost.

I had a little trepidation, but gave Scott the go ahead to diagnose and get it sorted. I wanted a genuine new turbo, not a recon job which the Arnold Clark warranty states that they can use. £1250 + VAT for the turbo, plus the ancillary bits and bobs, labour etc came to just over £1900!

I sent the receipt to Arnold Clark last Tuesday and received a cheque for the full amount this morning.

Absolutely first class service, I am very impressed!

Oh, and I did consider sticking it on the BMW Mondial warranty but IIRC it was circa £80-£100/month and the AC one was circa £500 for two years.

All I can say is you had a good service provided!
Granted I didn't take warranty out with them but as I bought the car from them I had AA drop it off because engine mount had snapped. Didn't want to know me and said they'd charge me if I wanted it fixed! Cost me £55 to have it towed down the road to ford. Wasn't impressed in the slightest

There are quite a few exclusions on it but it's pretty clear what they are. They do seem to give 3 months as standard on all used stock though, were you outside of that?

All that jazz

Nice, but who is the actual insurance/warranty provider?

Yes I was but still within manufacturer warranty. Equally if I bought from perrys I imagine they would fix it. i guess its because it wasn't a ford specific arnold clark garage?

What a refreshing post. It's good to see a good level of customer service for once. Are you enjoying your X5?

They underwrite it themselves.

From the booklet:

The Warranty Provider: Arnold Clark Automobiles Ltd
The Administrator: Arnold Clark Finance Ltd
The Claims Department: AUTOCARE, c/o Arnold Clark Finance Ltd.

Hmmm, I'd have thought that Ford were responsible for that then. Only Ford dealers can carry out Ford warranty work.

Yes, she loves it. I've had a couple before and the one I miss (but I don't miss the fuel bills!) is the E53 4.8is. That was a beast!

Glad to hear some positive experiences for a change, glad you got a good service!

People only tend to write stuff on the internet following a bad experience, refeshing change.

Well I'm normally one of the first to complain so I think it is only right to praise when it's due!
