Mercedes SLS AMG Black Series: pricing

German-market prices for the Black Series are announced; UK sales to start soon

Pricing has been revealed for the German-market version of Merc’s SLS AMG Black Series – it’ll cost €249,900 when it hits the road there this June.

Black Series will be on sale shortly
That means we can expect to see it costing somewhere between £220,000 and £230,000 when it goes on sale here. Mercedes tells us that that’ll happen soon, with the first orders being taken in around a month’s time, and deliveries following somewhere around August.

As we previously reported, the Black Series will get a 631hp version of the standard SLS’s 6.2-litre V8 that’ll feature a more aggressive camshaft, a beefed-up lubrication system, upgraded tappets and heftier conrods, all taken straight from the SLS GT3 racer. A number of weight-saving measures will also be incorporated throughout the car, which will include a titanium exhaust system and a welter of carbon fibre panelling, and together they’ll drop the car’s kerb weight by 70kg. Performance, therefore, won’t be shabby – the 62mph sprint will take a mere 3.6 seconds, with top speed coming in at 196mph

There’ll also be the usual mad aero package that’s become a hallmark of Black Series cars, of course, as well as a an electronically-locking diff, a modified six-speed dual-clutch gearbox, wider front & rear tracks, and stiffer coilover suspension. In short, it looks set to be bloomin’ fantastic. We can’t wait.

Impressive hardware, fair enough, but that looks horrific! Think I can guess the target audience though.

For less money you could have an MP4-12C or a 458.

Isn't the new ferrari F12 around £250,000? No comparison

I love the SLS but this is just spoilt. Looks like its been styled for a certain sandy region.

As much as i love the SLS there are better things i could blow £230k on.

Given the chronic depreciation of the standard car, £40k in the first year, I believe mainly due to over production / over optimism of take up. I wonder how this slightly uglier and significantly more expensive car will de value!!!

It looks like I'm in the minority by thinking it looks really good (almost GT3 racer for the road). boxedin

Probably in the minority here, but I still prefer the looks of the SL65 Black Series. Same money back in 2009/10, but had 661bhp and an interior from a 10 year old SL500 which you could pick up for £10k...

Agree with what some have said - perfectly capable car, but looks a little too 'Chavved up'

The SL65 Black Series from a few years back looked way better and more purposeful...

That looks horrible compared to the 'standard' car.

It looks like Khan have been let loose on it!

I think it looks OK, the Whites just not doing it any favours (Grey or Black woudl help). I'd hope theres a less blingy spoiler option too though.

As posted above, I'd rather have a SL65 Black Edition though, and the change.

No idea why but I love it. Is the boy racer making a mid life break for freedom or does the fact I own a guide dog excuse me from the hidious addons? No matter, if the lottery is really nice a poor chaffeur is just going to have to put up with it smile

+1

The SLS black just looks lardy rather than beefy/agressive. Gimme an SL65 Black every time.

Oh god, that's very dissapointing; I can't see many of them shifting. I love the SLS and would have one in a flash over this!
