Stopover near to Dover?

We stayed at the Churchill hotel in Dover in 2009 ish - £50 for two of us including breakfast, and they couldn't have been more helpful. Right on the harbour wall, view over the harbour etc.
If you like seafood there's a great restaurant five minutes walk away and the owner was a Le Mans regular spectator.

We depart Newcastle also but get the Ferry/tunnel on the Tuesday afternoon then stop over usually in Boulogne, then its a leisurely start on the Wednesday morning for an afternoon arrival at Le Mans.
Plenty time to set up camp before the evening qualifying. much better to get the channel crossing done the day before.
We use either http://www.premiereclasse.com/en or http://www.hotel-bb.com/ at St Martin Boulogne-sur-mer, plenty of nice restaurants nearby for an evening meal.
You can leave 9am and be across the channel and in a hotel easily by 7pm

Holiday Inn Express - Canterbury or Ashford.
Usually about £50 / night although Canterbury seems to be north of £80 these days.
'Free' breakfast - take a placcy bag to stock on essentials in the morning for later in the journey (muffins / flask of coffee / pastries).
Nice big semi secure car park in both of them.
My preference would be the Ashford one as it's near a Tesco's and it's a 10 minute run to Dover (plus I am a Priority Club member and use these hotels for work).
There are some weird road closures on the A2 at the minute. The diversion takes you down the backlanes of Dover, though not sure if this is just overnight.

Yeah Travelodge Ashford is cheap and I stayed there last year. Can get rooms as cheap as £25, but looks like time has passed for that price. Rooms are dated but clean.
On the same complex is a Premier Inn (Booked in for Sunday beforehand), which is a much newer building, put you pay alot extra and if your only turning up late then may as well stay in the Travelodge.

Ive tried that option, Hull is only 40 mins from home but are you sure?
It's 126kms Zeebruge to Calais according to Google maps. I know sprited driving is tolerated to some extent in Belgium, but..
Or did you mean journey time is only 40 mins more? Direct route Zeebruge to Le Mans is 80 kms more, but it means travel via Paris rather than Rouen.
Could be an idea for next year, 20 mpg certainly focusses the mind.
Scratch that. I've just done the maths, P and O quote £575 for 3 of us and a motorhome vs £166 with Eurotunnel for same vehicle with up to 9 travelling. I'd save 264 miles driving which is less than £100 in fuel. The ferry times are very limited. The £300 difference buys plenty of beer!

My preference is to do the trip across the Channel the night before as well. That way you get to do the time change on day 1 and you can get a good start off down the road to hell that is the A28. It never fails to surprise me how long it takes to get to LM...

weve over nighted here a few times, huge car park decent hotel, and can be had for premier inn rate if you shop around
