MX5 MK1 1.8is

I have had my 5 for the past 4yrs, after having a varied array of vehicles that has included Autobahn Cruisers, the odd 60's classic, and a Deux Chevaux or two. I can honestly say my little Mazda has given me the most satisfaction, I still get a buzz from "popping" the headlights up!
It's a 1997 1.8is UK Spec MK1 in Classic Red. Since acquiring it from my brother(his 3rd) I have upgraded it with K&N induction, a JDM Strut Brace, Refurbished leather "Eunos" seats, Chrome Style Bar, JDM Hardtop (sorry purists), Starter Button, Luggage Rack, Retro/Cobra Chrome Door Mirrors, SS Performance Exhaust, Alloys/ Toyos T1-R's, Cream Lockwood Dials, Race Leads/Long reach NGK plugs, TT Chrome Filler Cap, Clear Side Repeaters/Reflectors, plus plenty of interior bling including bespoke switches. Cambelt, lowering and WIM set up, are next on the list to be ticked.

I've had T1Rs before albeit on a mk2 Golf gti! pretty good tires for the price and good grip in the dry and when damp, in the extreme wet they weren't as good but if your being sensible they're okay. Basically they're a good grippy tire for that price range, just wear out very quick!

I now tyres are a subjective choice, depending on what you want from them. I concur with Rik, found the Toyos an excellent all rounder, and definitely would recommend them. Due to them having a soft tyre wall, I run mine at 28psi all round, rather than Mazdas recommendation of 26psi. Have heard that Yokos tend to wear quickly.

So that's what a red one looks like when it's shiny. I must try harder with mine. How do you find the induction kit? I'm tempted to try something on mine.

Seen a lot of mx-5's with air filters like that but surely they are counter-productive sucking air from over the manifold like that ??

Very impressed with the induction, had a K&N panel filter prior to fitting the kit, the performance was negligible, but gave a nice exhaust note, but nothing like the resonance the kit gives, also the car feels more responsive and torquer through the range.

Must say have had no flat spot issues due to heat transfer. The kit comes with a flexible hose/snorkel that sucks air in from the front of the car, also as an extra precaution, I've fitted a chrome heat shield around the cone filter.

I will get some photos of the interior up.

Thanks Kozy, here are some pics of interior, undecided, I'am playing with idea of removing the airbag steering wheel, and replacing it with a nice wood one.

My mk1 MX-5 is still the only car I really regret selling.
